Is this just supposed to be used for storage once you are done ironing or do you leave the iron sitting on this while it's on between use?

Dear Customer, The solemate for the TG1600+ is to protect the soleplate after use and during travel. Using it as a rest when the iron is in use would be difficult, requiring the iron to be placed with the lifting feet directly over the corresponding holes in the solemate. Thank you, Oliso

I do not hang mine on the wall. I use it as a plate cover.
