Johari West shirts are made from 100% high grade Indonesian cotton and have top stitch detail on the collar, shoulders, and sleeves with monogramed Johari West buttons. The Johari West Hawaiian or tropical style designs are produced using stamps that are approximately 8 to 10 inches’ square that are applied by hand in a repeating pattern. To obtain the specific color, each shirt goes through several hand dying and open air drying techniques that are centuries old and have been passed down through the generations on the islands of Indonesia. Due to the high level of individual hand craftsmanship involved in producing the shirt, the color and print may vary from the main picture. We believe that one of the true advantages of wearing a Johari West shirt is knowing that all shirts are individual with no two shirts being exactly the same.

... and had slim pickings in the closet that felt comfortable considering I've added a few pounds
Went out to a local street festival the other night and had slim pickings in the closet that felt comfortable considering I've added a few pounds. I am 6'2 , 270 lbs with a bit of a beer belly, a 2xl size has been hit or miss, and I've even found some 3xl to be a little tight. So the next day I bought 2 Johari West shirts from Baliwear hoping to get something I could be comfortable in. Opened them up and tried them on, was very happy. They were loose enough to be comfortable yet not baggy, length was perfect, just wish I had them 3 weeks ago. The quality of the material seems very good, solid, not thin and wispy like some "Hawaiian" style shirts (and these are not Hawaiian), I believe they will last me awhile. And I love the designs offered, they are different, they stand out without being flashy Very comfortable shirt, I highly recommend from my first impressions, now to just get the occasion to wear them and get the true test ride.

Spicey
I now have six of these shirts, but in different colors. While I like Hawaiian shirts, I am at that age where you see too many retired looking guys walking around in hibiscus and plumeria combos. While those shirts do look nice, I like something a bit different and not so "look at me I'm retired and wish I lived in Hawaii". These shirts are unique and I have been complimented on them. The material is comfortable and seems durable. I have washed and dried them a few times and have not seen any color loss.I had some older shirts that I hated to part with, but they were looking a bit long in the tooth and starting to fall apart, so it was necessary to replace them. These fit the bill nicely. This particular shirt is one of my favorites.I was NOT given these shirts as a discount and paid full pop. You really do have my honest and BIASED opinion. Cheers

Nice Fit for Mature Men
If you like Cooke Street Hawaiian shirts from Costco as I do then you will probably like the Johari West. The only difference I could find in the fit is that the sleeves are about 1 1/2" longer. The rest of the fit is very comparable. I believe today's trend, at least for younger people. is toward shorter tails and sleeves. I wear a 2XL and it fits pretty much the same as the Cooke Street after the first washing. There is also a cost difference as Costco has been able to keep the price at around $20 for the past 25 years. And Costco does not sell Cooke Street on there website so you must buy in person at the warehouse.Overall a pretty nice shirt.

I'd Advise Against Ordering Larger Than Your Regular Size!
Really liked the design of these shirts. Decided to buy two, a Green River and the Black with palm motif. These are hand stamped patterns, so no two are alike. The "Bass Fish" pattern (Green River) is almost indistinguishable, another plus in my mind. I'm not a fisherman, but I like marine life art!As an established artist I was really searching for unique designs that were not over the top. Artistic but still normal so people don't stare at you and wonder what the heck you are wearing or what country you might be from.Other reviewers have commented that they needed to order the next size up, one size larger than their regular size. This may have been a problem when these first came out, so you might want to sort your reviews by "most recent first". Johari West seems to have corrected this.As soon as they arrived I washed the Black one first, in cold water, then dried on air fluff. After drying it was a bit large, mostly in the underarms. I have large muscular arms so this is only a minor issue.Next I washed the Green River in warm water (Johari does not recommend this). I ran it through two warm water / cold rinse wash cycles. Then dried it on low heat setting (recommended). Result: I was very surprised that the arms shrunk slightly, but the shirt width stayed almost exactly the same, even used a tape measure to check. Shrinkage less than 1/2". So basically the same torso/ chest/belt line width top to bottom as it came out of the package. Nearly a perfect fit for me. I like a bit of extra room in a summer shirt, my summer home in coastal southeast region of the USA is hoy and humid from June -September.IMPORTANT NOTE: The warm water wash did soften the fabric and I don't see any fading of colors. Washed both shirts separately with a white t-shirt just to see if any of the ink came off. Nope!Bottom line is I think these are perfect. Knock it outa da park Grand Slam! (Yesterday was the 2016 Home Run Derby, pardon the pun!). A 100% cotton shirt that has minimal shrinkage, retains color, needs only a touch up of ironing if at all, is the perfect shirt in my opinion. Very impressed and I'll be ordering more! Thanks Johari West for a terrific product at a reasonable price! Please make more designs!

GREAT LOOKING & GREAT FITTING SHIRTS!
This coronavirus pandemic has made us all more sedentary as we quarantine and hide inside, and some of us have found solace in consuming more food. AND, SO I've had to get bigger clothes that look better - for when I go toonly the grocery store. I've been buying and wearing Johari West shirts for the last ten years - from size XL to now 3XL. Oy. They look great in any size and on any body. The designs are really neat to look at but also not too bold but give you some personality in your clothing. IF you are wanting to not follow directions and want to wash and then machine dry these, buy a size larger, as you will shrink them in the drier. No matter what, I liked these so much that I bought seven new shirts and they look and feel great! No matter what, I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND these Johari West shirts! Add some color and style to your casual wardrobe as you sit in on boring Zoom calls!

The colors don't line up with the pattern
The construction of the shirt itself is fine, but the colors are just randomly applied to the fabric, not in any sort of relation to the pattern. It's just splotches of colors everywhere that don't align with the fish so it ends up looking cheap or manufactured wrong.
