Q: Does this stuff melt plastic like other brands do?

No its never melted any plastic pieces on me I use this for vintage and modern stereo repair and it works wonders. Highly recomended

Q: Will it damage carbon potentiometers? (Deoxit D5 will dissolve the carbon.)

I used it on all the volume/balance/tone potentiometers in my vintage Marantz receiver and it worked fine for me.

Q: does it detune tuners?

It cleans electronics such as potentiometers. It has nothing to do with tuners.

Q: I notice strangely that there is absolutely no mention of smell? I assume it leaves things smelling like gasoline?

Not gas but some chemical oder.
