ESSEye Safety Systems CDI Ballistic Eyeshield, Black

I first found the ESS High Adrenaline Sunglasses: CDI back in 2009 at a PX on FOB Sykes in northern Iraq. They were $69 and I was extremely happy with the quality, style, protection and comfort they provided at such a low cost. However, after wearing them on hundreds of day and night missions, I came home to later lose them in 2011 at a Cabela's. My purchase of a replacement pair has made me happy once again.Cons:- I seriously found no cons for this product after the massive amount of mission and civilian wear.Pros:- They are both mission and civilian acceptable in appearance.- The product comes with a hard case, soft case (use for cleaning lenses as well), smoke and clear lenses, and a small elastic strap.- The newest model "snaps" the arms open and almost in a "locked" position better than the previous generation I had.- A fellow soldier was struck with a rock that was popped out from a bus tire and after striking the left lens, a scratch was created but zero cracking and therefore, saving of the eye. There is no doubt that he would have lost his eye as the impact did jerk his head back.- Although I have not test the lenses against a 9mm round, it is stated that they are ballistic. Major reason I bought them to begin with as that is required for military missions and range operations.- The nose pieces actually never fell off like other glasses I have owned.

I have had these glasses since 2009. Went two tours to Afghanistan with them. Very scratch resistant. Easy to swap lenses. The only thing is I wish the case came with a Molly attachment. I lost the pair I had and had to order another pair. Frame is very strong. Great value especially when compared to Oakley. They fit extremely well and offer great visibility.

I love these. I wear them every day as sunglasses, and are amazing when I go to the shooting range!I bought these to replace a pair of lost sunglasses and my cheap shooting glasses. I wanted Oakley Men's Half Jacket Iridium Sunglasses because of the interchangeable lenses and the impact protection, but I a) didn't want to spend quite that much (I wanted to afford to buy a back-up pair if I liked them), and b) didn't want to look like "that guy" in Oakleys. The wider sides of the CDI glasses were also a consideration because I am using them as eye protection (note: it's not just the lenses that are ANSI impact rated, the frames and the sides are as well).They fit well, even on my smallish head, but are flexible enough that my fat-headed friends are also picking up pairs after trying mine on. The CDIs are comfortable to wear even after a long time, and stay where they're put. The interchangeable lenses are fantastic and stay in when the glasses are folded, but only need a firm tug to pull them out. I switch between the clear and smoke color a 2-3 times a week (from dark to clear and back), and it hasn't been a problem. The smoke lenses are dark enough for driving and outdoor sports, but you can still forget to take them off when you head inside without being blind. They're nice but I think I'd like to add really dark lenses and polarized. The minor warp that other safety glasses give is gone, and it's easy to forget that the clear ones are on. I'm not shooting any better but it's more comfortable.And of course, I think they look pretty good, especially with a hat.

The price went up but since they were made I haven't bought another style. On my 6th pair and will only buy these. Work perfect, easy to change lenses, sturdy and look cool. Oh yeah and used these in Iraq, Afghanistan, on my motorcycle, and general use. They work in all those environments so safety is not even a question.

I first started wearing these glasses when I was serving in Iraq. I was tired of the glasses that fogged and had to have two sets for night and day operations. These glasses were not only comfortable but held up to the sand. They will scratch it dropped but are very durable. I have loved these glasses since. I have a pair that still have a peace of shrapnel stuck in the left lense. I have both my eyes because of the glasses. You can always find a flaw in anything but they are a good product for everything you might do from riding motorcycles to a day on the range.

The ESS CDI's are the best sunglasses I have ever purchased. They are marketed for military use, but I primarily use them for outdoor sports, and protective ware on an ambulance as a paramedic.The package comes with a carrying case, cleaning cloth, removable band, non-polarized grey lenses (work great in moderate to high light conditions), and clear lenses with a separate soft carrying case.Pros:These glasses stay put: I've never had to use the band, even while mountain biking on technical terrain and rock climbing.They are comfortable: With all previous sunglasses that I've owned I get soar spots behind my ears, but not with the CDI's.Interchangeable lenses: Quick and easy swap out lenses are perfect for transition from high to low light conditions where you still need eye protection. ESS also sells a wide variety of lenses including high contrast, polarized, and prescription.Durable: I have taken mine through the ringer. They've stood up to high and low heat including being left on the dashboard in the dessert by accident. I've also dropped them on a couple of occasions and thrown them around in a back pack with no consequence.Cons: None so far

I love these glasses. I bought a pair at Bagram, they are cheaper there btw, but I lost them two days after getting to my FOB. I liked them so much I ordered them here, next cheapest place. Shipping to me in Afghanistan was much faster than promised, which is always a plus. The glasses themselves are fantastic. Super comfortable, look cool, and the lenses are very functional. I think they are a great combination of safety/sun glasses. I will continue to own this style of glasses for some time.
