Rural Internet made easy
I moved to a rural area about two weeks ago. The road I’m on just got cable and internet service 3 months ago. The cable company doesn’t supply routers. Even the installer said “we have our moments.” The Nighthawk AC 2300 works flawlessly. I work from home a lot and stream all of our television. It works so well I told one of my new neighbors who I’ve known for eight days. Prior to that it was a data plan on his cell phone. I showed him my router, and explained one of my sons I.T. friends recommended it. He bought one after my recommendation, he called to say “how much better it now was”. I haven’t seen any buffering on the TV and there’s been no issues uploading or downloading. Set up was simple right out of the box. It was less than ten minutes. It had very easy to understand instructions. Connecting all devices has been seamless. There hasn’t been a single device that has connected. We have Roku’s,Echoes, iPhones, iPads and all of the connected. It’s a stellar piece of equipment. I thought I was going to need extenders in the house. They weren’t necessary the range it covers seems pretty incredible. All of my fears about rural internet have been put to rest. On a side note I gave tech support 5 stars because I didn’t need them. The written instructions were so easy to understand that’s all I needed.

Thank God. No more Apple Airport Extreme
I had had enough! With Apple's zealous efforts to keep things "simple" and cutesy, they left out the productive part, meaning a straight forward way to get to the things that need to be done. Fine if you are have a simple "open-the-box-plug-it-in-and-forget-about-it" application but that is not what I needed. It was rare but when the Internet "blinked" it would take literally hours to get that thing up and running and to get the DHCP the way I wanted it. I have an extensive home office with servers, printers, laptops, phones, etc. that share the network resources with personal stuff like TVs, receivers, home automation, etc. All of the heavy traffic stuff like servers and TVs are on Ethernet. Things that can't go Ethernet are left to the WiFi. Also, I like to have hard assets with static IPs. My point is that the AAE software was annoying as hell and the unit itself kept dropping WiFi clients. The last blink outage was the last straw. In came the Netgear AC2300. Setup was a breeze. A simple app on your phone gets you into the router so you can change the WiFi network name and password to your liking. The connection to the Internet through the modem was quick and automatic. In minutes everything that was on the old wireless network was now on the new one. All that remained was to log into the router using a browser for features that can't easily be managed by the app on the phone. A few minutes later, the DHCP base IP and ranges were set and viola, all the Ethernet clients, including those with fixed IPs, came back on online. The whole process from opening the box to getting everything up and running was less than 30 minutes. The WiFi speeds are faster and the range is wider. I can't say how long this unit will last but I couldn't be happier with the first 24 hours. Would I recommend it, absolutely. I have a pretty sophisticated setup and I see no need for a more expensive router.

Verizon Fios Compatible
Our Verizon-provided router was 6 years old and we were getting charged a monthly fee (baked into the monthly price, not broken out as a separate line item). The signal routinely dropped and over the last year I spent a lot of time with Verizon resetting the connection and unplugging it to reset it. They were always polite, but the fixes only lasted a few days. This was especially frustrating when I upgraded my computer and couldn't keep a consistent signal; it went up and down like a roller coaster! No more working from home. A tech-savvy friend of ours recommended replacing the router with a 3rd party one since we only used the internet. It gets more complicated when you have other services, but still possible. We did a lot of research before finding one that was Fios compatible that would work in our apartment building where most of our neighbors also use Verizon. It took about an hour to set up, removing the Verizon router and the DHCP lease, connecting to the Netgear Nighthawk (which looks like a stealth bomber), configuring the new router and reconnecting all our devices. The Netgear interface has a simple view and an advanced view (for those who want to get their hands dirty) and is very easy to navigate. I've had a long history with Netgear and have no complaints. Since we swapped it out we have had a consistent signal, the speed is notably faster, can stream on multiple devices simultaneously, and there are no dead spots in our 1,000 sf apartment. The only question I can raise is... why did I wait so long to change it? Would have saved myself hours of service calls! Eventually the cost will be covered by the $5/month savings for the lease on the old one.

Failed in seven weeks
This review applies to the Netgear R7000P ac2300 router. No compensation-bought it out of my own pocket. Two months ago I was upgrading my home network from old 100mbs to gigabit. Did a lot of research and this R7000P seemed to be the best compromise between cost and capability. My son was also upgrading his home and agreed with my assessment. He bought first. Router was excellent so I bought mine shortly thereafter in mid March 2018. It installed easily, plugged it in and it worked perfectly. Setup was a breeze. My home LAN is a mix of wireless and ethernet devices-two computers, a printer, five NAS devices connected through switches, some phones and tablets. Everything connected, the ethernet ports at 1000mbps. Fast forward seven weeks. One bright May morning I looked at the router and noticed that the LAN ports LED indicators had changed from white to amber. The ports had switched to 100mbps. Not a good thing. Speed tests were surprising-the wireless part of the router was still running as fast as always at 39MBps. The ethernet ports could barely hit 6MBps. So I did all the things one normally does to show love for electronics. Rebooted, power cycled, reset to factory specs, flashed new firmware, direct connected computer to the modem(to verify the modem wasn't in some way failing) and to each lan port through brand new cat 5 and cat 6 cable. I even yelled at it hoping intimidation would work. No joy. The router management software reported and speed tests confirmed that the ethernet ports were under 100mbps, not even close to 1000mbps. Phone support was less than helpful. It's beyond 30 days so I can't return it to Amazon and if I spend hours navigating a support system directing me do do all the troubleshooting I have already done I might eventually be able to return it for exchange. I pay shipping both ways, wait a week or three with no network. About a week after mine went wonky my son's failed in exactly the same way. He bought his at Walmart and had no trouble returning it and getting an ASUS. So, the most expensive router I have ever owned is operating in cripple mode. When I can afford it I'll buy something else. Not Netgear. One thing I did learn is that the 21,500+ reviews are not necessarily for this router. There is a filter switch near the review stars that lets you see only confirmed purchasers of this specific router-and that is lots less. Turns out I'm not the Lone Ranger-others have had similar issues. All of which is a very long-winded way of explaining how the R7000P managed to earn a single star.

Great WiFi Router for Smaller Homes
Purchased and received this router about 2 weeks ago now. Replaced a COX Panoramic WiFi cable modem/router combo. So far, the router has performed very well in our 1700 sq.ft.+ house. I have had consistent download and upload speeds and the router has had very few connection issues. The router logon from a PC is a bit inconsistent in access (it lost my established PW). But other than that all has functioned as expected. The NightHawk App works well and is very straightforward and easy to use. Overall, so far, very satisfied with this router. Update on review 20210131. Have been very frustrated with this router. It constantly drops my interent connection and won't stay connected to some of my devices. Considering trying some alternative as this has become a mutliple-times-a-day issue. Only fix is rebooting the router and waiting on it to restore... Have upgraded to the latest version of firmware and still not fixing the problem...

Much better than TP-Link AC1750
My old TP-Link AC1750 kept dropping connections and had to be rebooted at least once a day. So far this router keeps connections alive very well and we even notice an improvement in speed and latency as witnessed by my family "Netflix looks a lot better now!" - i.e. no drops to lower resolution. My only beef is the admin interface - it's clunky and slow. So slow. Infuriatingly slow. And it requires a restart (which takes about 2 minutes) very EVERY change - it doesn't let you do a bunch of changes and hit restart once. Setting this up was very annoying and time consuming. The iPhone app is useless because of the amount of restarts - I'd rather see a browser wait then stare at the phone screen without any idea what's going on. However, once admin is done, the router operates quite well.

Great WIFI Router!
Got this to upgrade my old Netgear router. I didn't realize that my old router was holding my internet speeds back so much. Literally added 3X the bandwidth and speed I was missing because the tech in my older router was so outdated. And personally I never even thought about the bottlenecks that would cause. This router is robust, very fast, easy to setup and Netgear has always made quality stuff. Never had a failure with them. The router is solid. Never lost connectivity or suffered any reboot issues. And the range is amazing. My whole home gets full speed connectivity. The new streaming capabilities of the MU-MIMO technology is fantastic for my overly stuffed tech household. Kids on tablets, teens on computers and XBOX and my wife on her phone and everyone has all the bandwidth they need and I still can download my Steam library without fighting for bandwidth. Streaming is faster and the quality is top resolution all the time. Why the heck didn't I do this sooner? Great router. It is bigger than the other I have had and eats more table space on my desk. But it does what it says it will and that makes my tech family and myself happy. Highly recommend.

Long-range signal, fast, easy to set up
We have a 3-level townhouse, Verizon FiOS, and a FiOS Quantum Modem / Router which was accessed through the bottom level. Problem was, the Verizon router WiFi was barely strong enough to reach the second floor. Enter the Nighthawk. Not only did this bad boy (the AC2300 version) have enough power to reach the third floor at full power, it was able to do it at 5GHz. I swear, we (and the neighbors) are all going to die early deaths from cancer, but damn, we'll have fast Internet while we're here. I tested the speed and I'm getting the same throughput from the 3rd floor wirelessly as I am from my desktop connected via ETHERNET (i.e. wired) - so - freaking fast. On top of that, it was a piece of cake to set up. Literally plug the power in, connect the supplied Ethernet cable into the LAN port of the Nighthawk and any available network port on the FiOS router. Then download the Nighthawk app to your phone, connect to the Nighthawk network, run the app, and with zero futzing around, it connected and worked. I was literally just tapping just "Next" and "Ok" the whole time. One minor quibble - the antenna screw connections are pretty weak, so if you're trying to position the antennas precisely, they will unscrew if you twist them even slightly to the left. So either hold on to the screw-on part or just adjust in a clockwise direction. You'll see what I mean when you see it for yourself.

Works as specified, a bit of a challenge to set up.
I bought this to replace my problematic Airport base station. I'd have to say by comparison that it's definitely not plug and play, but now that I've got it set up it's working fine and somewhat faster than the Airport. One definite suggestion for Netgear, would be to lose the app assistant and just provide a printed manual. The app was no help at all.

Excelente router
