This is like a cardboard little envelope that fits the card smugly. If it's in your wallet it shouldn't slip out - I haven't had to worry about mine.

What kind of material is it that makes it block It being read by some digital bandit?

The inside of the material is made of a ferrous/metallic coating. Similar to Aluminum foil. Digital bandits use devices that transmits a signal using Radio Frequencies (RF). Since RF travels through the air, the metallic sleeves provide a protective barrier (similar to a Faraday Cage), that prevents the Bandit's RF Signals from penetrating, thus reading your Credit Card. Think of riding in an elevator and trying to talk on your cell phone. Most of the time, the metal doors and metal walls blocks the RF signals from your cell phone from getting in or out.
