How do you see if the maxfire retro is full?, the "window" at the bottom front seems to only be cosmetic?

The window is not cosmetic, internally there is a "double tank" which takes a lot of gas until it looks full, if you tilt the lighter back and forth you will see the gas easier. Hope this helps.

I think the elements are steel. The lighter feels solid, but the flip up lid's spring feels like it'll be the first bit to go. The flame is controllable at the fill port. A full tank will last about a week and a bit of ciggies on max afterburner! The flicky lighter bit is smooth and satisfying to use as it flips up the lid and ignites the flame with a very satisfying BWOOOSSSHhhh.. The fuel tank window is hard to see through unless you're in good light.
