It's fantastic if you use it properly, if you use it improperly not so much...
I've been using these for years, and the cloth ones for decades. And I have to laugh at a lot of the poor reviews of this device. It is painfully obvious users are misusing the product and then giving it a poor review. So let's start with some basics. #1. Silcone handle covers are meant to be used light a form fitted oven mitt. NOT a permanent piece of the handle. Slide it on, move the pan, slide it off. If you leave it ON the pan especially in the oven, it WILL get hot, and may likely melt a bit. Just don't do that. #2. Silicone handle covers REDUCE heat transfer from the CI handle, they do NOT eliminate it. You may still want to wrap the handle a bit with a cloth to further reduce the heat transfer. Now having said that, I have a 10.5" Outdoor Gourmet cast iron skillet I bought for camp cooking when I was single that my wife has absconded for the house... The handle is slightly different shape and size from the Lodge castings, so fit was a concern. And as expected, this cover is a bit loose on the handle, but does grip well, and he ribbed inside allows for heat to move away from the hand fairly efficiently. When used on the house stove, and / or camp stove, the cover stays cool while cooking even when left on. However do NOT use the handle while cooking in the oven or directly over the camp fire, remove and place back on as needed in those circumstances. Overall this replaced a Lodge cover that failed after years of use, and I can honestly say, this appears to be of roughly the same quality and usability of the Lodge unit. Just use it correctly and you'll be fine.

Works great
I recently bought a red cast iron skillet and surprised myself when I accidentally grabbed the hot handle the first time I used it. I thought I could use a hot pad but that only worked for laying on the lid to prevent myself from grabbing it without protection. This handle cover works well. It is tight enough it fits the handle well and after a minute or two I forgot it was there. It would never fall off and is always there when I want to hold onto the pan while stirring. I want to get one for every pot with a hot handle. The color is perfect and matches the pot. It always surprises me that silicone insulates against heat so well. It definitely protects my hand from burns.

Works great, but the fit is a little loose
This silicone handle cover does the job—it definitely makes grabbing my cast iron pan way safer and more comfortable. No more worrying about burning my hand on a scorching hot handle! Only downside is that it runs a little big and feels a bit loose on the pan. It still works fine, just not as snug as I expected. I might try a different brand for a better fit, but overall it’s a solid kitchen helper.

Safe Grip for Hot Handles
Safe Grip for Hot Handles I picked up this Amazon Basics silicone pot holder to deal with the scorching-hot handles on my cast iron skillet, and it’s been a real hand-saver. The silicone material feels sturdy but flexible, and it slides easily onto the handle without feeling loose. Once it’s on, it stays put even when I’m moving a heavy pan around the stove. The length is just right to cover the bulk of the handle, so I don’t have to worry about my fingers sneaking onto the hot metal. What I really like is that it doesn’t heat up quickly. I’ve left it on while cooking and found I could still grab the pan comfortably. The textured surface gives a secure grip, which helps when I’m tilting or pouring. Cleanup is simple—just a quick rinse or toss in the dishwasher. A couple of things to keep in mind: this cover is designed for standard straight handles, so it may not fit oddly shaped or oversized ones. Also, while it protects well from high heat, I wouldn’t recommend leaving it in the oven during broiling temps. Bottom line: A simple, inexpensive upgrade that makes cooking with cast iron (or any skillet with a bare handle) much safer and more comfortable.

Being “Basic” is okay!!
I was hesitant to not just re-buy that other tried and (mostly) true, big name brand well known for their cast iron pans, but took a chance and went with another big name of Amazon’s “Basics” brand line simply because of the cost difference. What a happy surprise that this handle is of a decent thickness silicone on par with the other niche big brand. After trying fit on multiple sized handles, it obviously doesn’t fit every pan handle like a glove because style variances of handles is to be expected. For each pan we tried (cast irons and all clad stainless skillets too), the area that does stay in contact on the handles has been plenty enough to stay in place with a firm grip and without much concern about any play in the non contact areas, again depending on pan selected. Overall, this generic handle cover is a fair comparison in both thickness and style of the silicone. It’s been plenty durable for our light to moderate daily usage needs. For purposes of stress testing to decide if any more purchases, it has been tried on: both gas and electric stovetops from long simmering times up to hot stir frying temps. It’s been unaffected and has held up well in the ovens for things like frittatas and some other higher temp dishes and finishings (not tried any broiler temps), but has also been used once on open campfire grill, and thus far, there’s been no handle burns or any food losses to gravity! With the lesser costs, we plan to purchase more for the rest of our pans just for ease pan having one, and it’s visually nice to have a matching color ‘set’ too. 😊
