Got this for rappelling, and it works as it is built to. I have a few different versions of figure 8 descenders, and this one is the favorite for speedy simple descents. It has low friction though (thats why its good for fast runs) so best to employ a "third hand" safety knot.

Everyone seems to count out Figure 8's these days. The negative is they can twist your rope, and you need to know how to use them properly. Knowing how is easy...to be honest, if you aren't smart enough to use these right, I don't want to climb with you. The Fig 8 doesn't have problems with heat buildup that can destroy your rope. They're very low cost & light weight. GriGri's are great, but 5 times the price. many climbing gym's no longer allow a Fig 8 and many companies don't make them....FYI, I looked at the Chinese 8's. They're not rated by UIAA, heavy, bulky and not worth the price. If you have the $$$ buy a GriGri or BD ATC or similar. Knowing how to use a Fig 8 is easy.

Also great for a first-time user, as well. when it comes to your safety and the safety of others, you cannot beat Black Diamond.

Works great and doesn’t take up much space. Prefer this to ATC even if it puts some twist into the line.

隣家との境界にそびえたつ樹高20m超えの杉の木をDIYでやっつけるべく、少しづつ道具を揃えながら微前進しています。ツヨロン木登り器とランヤード、バックアップ使用で杉を登って枝を落とすところまでは来たものの、木登り器で降りるのが怖いのなんの...。メインロープをフリクションセーバーで固定して、このエイト環で降下するのは想像以上に楽でした。もちろん完全自己責任ですのであしからず。

コンパクトでいいと思う！耐久の記載がないのは残念
