Works Great!
No more trying to use pliers to open the lid on a barrel. This tool is made of plastic and is lightweight but definitely durable enough to handle opening the tightest lids. It’s long enough to give you good leverage and has good grip.

Tool to open the plug on a large barrel
Works great for opening the barrel plug for my water storage container. The only thing is, I found out after I got it, that I had already gotten one in a package deal.. Kept it anyway. Very strong, sturdy and well made material

Pros and Cons
It can fit a slot up to about a half inch, BUT, it slips and this can be a danger. The intention is to have a tight seal of what inside. Decent amount of torque. If it slips on you, that won’t be fun, the perfect fit for my barrel is about 1/2” which in the advertisement says 1/2”, but the inserts, see picture are closer to a 1/4”, or maybe 3/8ths.If I were tightening or loosening an erosive or equally harsh liquid, I’d risk a spill or falling over with the barrel. To loosen my barrels, I had to brace it against a corner so I could use both hands and better handle the lever, gently and slowly, to loosen it.In my case I was just water inside. So Amazon says that most don’t return this item, and I can see why. It’s only $13, one’s time can be worth more than a trip to the Amazon Returns station. It’s not sustainable to do returns, an other small carbon footprint excuses.I work where there is an Amazon Returns. I don’t have to package it. So less guilt BUT it will get your job done if done carefully. No one here mentioned that it slips and a slip is serious trouble. You and the barrel will move in way you won’t want or expect, unless you’ve done this before. For the sake of using it to keep water out, mine were under a dock I built, or for the sake of keeping water in. It will be used often and if it starts to wear right away as two people mentioned maybe get the metal and make sure it’s a snug fit. It’s otherwise fine for the right barrel cap.

Works on my 55 Gal. Water Barrel Great
I bought a 55 gal. food grade plastic water barrel and this wrench fits it perfectly. It is sturdy and works well. I didn't notice any kind of stripping or rounding but I only had to open the barrel two times. I don't know how long it would last if I had to use it every day but as I said, it meets my needs for an emergency water supply for when we loose our electric due to storms. (No electric means no water since we need electric to pump it up the hill). It is light weight (not like my husbands metal wrenches) and I use the bigger end but there is a smaller end on it too. I don't have anything that fits that end so I can't tell you how well it works.
