Very helpful teaching text
I use this with a group of harp players and with a theory student. It’s got an excellent, methodical way to explain what considerations to employ when making up an arrangement for harp. Many folk tunes to practice with!

I believe it is a helpful tool for Music Therapists playing lever Harp.
I am a music therapy student beginning lever harp. I am only beginning harp and have not incorporated it yet, but can see positive possibilities as a music therapy resource. I believe' it has the potential to be a helpful resource for planning and adapting pieces or lead sheet to the clients needs. It has optional accompaniment patterns for different time signatures which gives options when considering entrainment, distraction, relaxation etc.

A good resource
Another exercise book that I can't use until I learn to read musical notes. It is well written and will be handy in the months to come. I recommend it for those who are really serious about learning to read music and play the harp really well. Also try Pamela Bruner's DVD and harp learning system. Sylvia goes by the book totally with no shortcuts. I need some short cuts as I am older than most beginning students....much!

great exercises for dexterity and speed
This book reminds me of the practice books I used when learning piano several decades ago. The lessons are well-organized and give both hands a good workout. I notice that after practicing these exercises, my fingers seem to remember the intervals all on their own! A great way to begin a practice session and warm up the fingers.

This book gives a comprehensive overview of music theory as ...
This book gives a comprehensive overview of music theory as it applies to writing your own accompaniment to melodies on the harp. Among other things, it covers major and minor chords, inversions and modes. There are many examples of well-known tunes with suggested accompaniment. It is a book that will last me well into my harp-playing future!

This is a great book for people getting to grips with the harp
This is a great book for people getting to grips with the harp. I've been playing for a year now, and am now feeling confident and curious enough to want to make up my own arrangements on the harp. This book takes you through the theory and the practice of arranging clearly and thoroughly, and really gives you confidence to tackle those tunes you love and want to be able to play on your harp.

Lots of content.
This book covers music theory and arranging techniques needed to play non-harp music sheets, like piano or guitar songs, or even make your own arrangements. All you need is the basics on a harp as Sylvia Woods explain very well all the different concepts with many different pieces for example and practice. This book really is wonderful to open up to music transposing for the harp. Spicing up a basic song with your own arrangement makes playing the harp more creative.
