I try to store grains long term and prefer getting wheat berries to already milled. This is my first time ordering this brand and I'm very impressed. It arrived in a nice secure bag - no problems with ability for foreign things to get inside. The berries look very fresh and healthy. This is a very clean product...no dirt or trash of any type with the grain. I am storing this except for a little to try in mylar and very pleased to have a great product that should store very well.

I am a professional chef and have used Great River Organic Milling's grains and flours for years. They have very high quality products. The grains always sprout without any issue, they mill very well, and they are fresh. Occasionally they will come infested with miller moths and worms, but that is the nature of grains, and the company will stand behind the product even though they may have been picked up from being stored in a warehouse. I would not ever hesitate to recommend any products from Great River.

Awesome berries, flour taste great. Been buying other companies but this don't have the heavy nut taste the others do. Sift it and make great cakes. Will be buying more.

I purchased this to mill. I noticed the black seeds and contacted the manufacturer, as I have had issues will bulk grain before. The manufacturer said that the seeds are a cover crop that is completely safe and can be milled along with the flour. I have purchased grain from other suppliers and had WEEVILS, rotten wheat berries, and rocks galore. I am happy to have the cover crop instead of weevils any day of the week. Another supplier sold me old wheat, as I noticed there were a lot of damaged and crushed grains as well as a lot of powdery flour in my bag. I did not have these issues with Great River. They also replied promptly to my inquiry. I have been very happy with the quality of this grain, the quality of my resulting baked goods, and will definitely be buying from them again. Vetch is actually a crop that is used as a cover crop for organic wheat fields and it is tilled into the ground before planting as a natural way to restore nitrogen and nutrition to the soil. Some times it resprouts and grows along with the wheat in the field. Because of its size it can be very difficult to clean out of the white wheat and so we sometimes end up with some in the whole grain product. When we grind flour this is ground in and you would never know but when we sell whole grains unfortunately it sticks out. It is not harmful and it is not from rodents which is usually the biggest concern. Thanks for buying our products."

Just received this and opened the box to find the bag crawling with bugs. We then noticed the bag had little holes on the side where the bugs ate their way out. We opened the bag and it was even worse. So disgusting. I did order hard red wheat berries as well and they were shipped separately. The red wheat berries were fine. So I will give credit for that. I am very disappointed though because I really wanted those soft white wheatberries.

I was worried when I saw bugs in other people's bags! But ours is perfect! No bugs...thick bag was totally dry and sealed. My husband even wanted to join in to grind it in our Ninja blender! I haven't baked with it yet but plan to do so tomorrow! Will update! As of now, based on the delivery time and condition of package and the actual product appearance, I would recommend!

Makes great breads, or rolls or any baking faves. Mills up easy with good mill

Clean good grain. I didn't germinate it because I use my grain for bread baking. I love that I can find high nutrient grains delivered safely and packaged appropriately to withstand travel.
