The allen screws have paint inside which screws up the wrench fit. I bought replacement screws before I realized the paint was the problem. The bubble level is put on with weak chewing gum. I bought two of these and both levels fell off within two days. There were no instructions with the guide. It cannot be used with a 2 x 4 as the guide width is too big for a regular 2 x 4. You have to rip a board to fit the guide. I used a PT 1 x 6 which I ripped close to size then jointed that to get a good fit to the guide. Regardless of the issues it works great. I've ripped about 30 logs with it and like it. It is possible to get a nice square surface beam with it. If you work the saw and move the bar a lot the cut will be scored. If you go slow and keep the bar steady you get a nice smooth surface. Review: Great price and was able to make great cuts. - I got a ripping chain and cutting logs down with a chalk line and doing it freehand. I was just not happy with the cuts I was getting. I looked and found this beam cutter a very happy other than i added some aluminum stock to put under the screws that fit it to the bar. The last 2 layers on tops along with the top piece was all cut using the beam cutter. I had to cut a 2x6 down to fit the guide as I did not like the slop I had on a 2x4. I hope the video uploads as I like it and would feel comfortable slabbing a log out. This was all cottonwood so I was looking to make a better backstop, then just stacked up logs. You position the beam cutter and with it in position you rock the saw in an arc, making your cut. Then you move the beam cutter and repeat. I used the scrap for the sides to hold the dirt in. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Worst manual ever. (Update) *by A***P on October 17, 2017* Just unpacked my Timber Tuff Beam Cutter. Quite possibly the worst "owner's manual" I have ever seen, and I used to LIVE in China, so that's saying a lot. I was surprised to see 3 pointed pins on the underside of the tool - I thought it was supposed to slide on a 2x4. The pins seem likely to dig in, what with the weight of the saw and all. Unfortunately the owner's manual has absolutely nothing to say about what the pins are for, how to set up the tool, how to clamp the saw into it or, frankly, anything else in the way of useful information. The photo I attached is just about the entire "manual." The cover page has a photo (same one Amazon uses), the model number, and the following irrelevant warning: "Carefully read and understand all ASSEMBLY AND OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS before operating. Failure to follow the safety rules and other basic safety precautions may result in serious injury." On the back cover (we're talking about a single sheet of paper here) is the following advice regarding maintenance of the tool: "Keep the beam cutter in good repair by adopting a program of conscientious repair and maintenance in accordance with the recommended procedures found in this manual." Right. So...do nothing, since there ARE no procedures of any kind in the manual. Look, I get it, what do I expect for $20, right? Well, for starters, how about an explanation of what those 3 sharp pins are supposed to do for me? It comes in a really nice and sturdy box, though. I'll let you know if I can make the thing work. UPDATE: The best way to learn to use this thing is to try it. Turns out that my main problem was assuming you just clamp in your saw, and slide the channel down the 2x4. Actually what you do is cut in steps: position the beam cutter channel then rock your saw in an arc to make a cut, then move the beam cutter down the 2x4 and repeat. The pins keep the thing stable while you make the cut. One issue remains, though. The channel is too wide, so getting a consistent thickness that won't require a lot of planing requires you to try to hold the inside edge of the channel against the 2x4. Tricky to do, though. I drilled and tapped and installed bolts in the edge opposite the saw clamp to take up the slack. This gives the tool more stability, gives you one less thing to concentrate on while making the cuts and tightens everything up.
