Teaching Arithmetic: Lessons for First Grade

I teach title math for grades 1-5, strictly for students who struggle. I have an excellent intervention curriculum that came with books in this Marilyn Burns (Math Solutions) series. However, it does not extend lower than second grade, so I bought the rest of the books because I like the ones that came with the upper grade levels. It's practical, hands-on, engaging, and easy-to-follow because of the way it is laid out. The timing and pacing of the lessons is excellent. My second grade material can be too difficult, so this is an excellent bridge for my students in grades one and two. I use it to develop concepts, and eventually I can start them in the correct curriculum module for their abilities. (Note: This book isn't written by Marilyn Burns, but it is from the same Teaching Arithmetic series.) I also use it for "fun" math days, those days before breaks and extended weekends where it's not wise to start something completely new. The lessons range from 1-3 days on specific concepts.

I love the ideas in this book. I bought this book twice because someone borrowed my first book and didn’t return it!
