Whole Brain Teaching: Color Writing

This book takes the guesswork out of trying to teach writing! It is laid out in simple to follow steps, and the examples helped me to "see" the process as I was learning to implement it with my students. I highly recommend this book!

I have found new joy and enthusiasm for teaching writing to elementary school children! Color Writing makes so much SENSE! Teaching writing, especially after the pandemic, has felt like such a burden. Finally, I have the resources and tools needed to teach and fill academic gaps, while maintaining classroom management and having fun! The resources included with Color Writing go above and beyond! This book is a must have for current teachers and is the perfect gift for newly graduating teachers. Thank you Chris Biffle!

After reading this book it all finally makes sense. I have stressed and struggled with other programs and I always felt that I had to lower my standards. Not with this one. The visual nature of the program is just what we need. I wish I had seen this before. I have ordered all the supplies I need and I am ready to get started. I can't wait to get started with my kindergarteners. I can see how this will cue into everything they need to be successful in writing.

This book was so helpful to me as a new first grade teacher. My students were writing with so many run on sentences. After we started color writing, my students started to understand what a sentence was. The colors helped the students with their organization of their thoughts before they started writing. I also started the Green/Red proofreading and it was very motivating for the students to focus on just 1 goal each time we had writing time. The students loved earning their improver stars for improving on their writing skills. Thank you for this great resource.

Getting elementary age kids to write well can be difficult, but the strategies in this book are engaging, fun, and students are excited to play (learn/write)!

My kids LOVE color writing! It has helped my kids writing become more organized. And they love the whammy game! Happy teacher and students.

Coach did it again in writing this book. He makes it so easy to follow. Just imagine your children speaking in full sentences ( Single Whammy),then adding on to make (Double Whammies) and continue to (Triple Whammies). Children even in kindergarten learn to speak in paragraphs until they are speaking a 5- paragraph essay. Coach makes it fun and exciting. You know how he likes games for learning. The color comes in when children write their sentences. The brain loves color. Children can see and remember how what they are saying looks on paper. Some people are going to say, " Little kids cannot write a 5-paragraph essay." For you non-believers Andrea Schindler, co-founder of WBT has two videos that shows what her kinders can do. This book is very compact but teaches you everything you need to know to help young children learn how to write effectively. I cannot wait to start this with my students.

I read the book in one night as I think I finally found a program all my students can master. Students learn to master organizing their writing orally before they master steps to printing it out which often is a source of frustration for many students. This program takes the ‘learn to walk before you can run’ approach to writing guiding students step by step in a fun and approachable way. I look forward to implementing it!

This quick read gives many ways to get kids involved in writing. Speaking simple and complex sentences in a gamified environment makes them want to take part. Kids need to speak before they can talk and this program does that. Colour Writing works at many grade levels and is easily adapted. It is a wonderful addition to any writing program. It has my kids begging for Colour Writing time !
