Another excellent read
I always enjoy peter James books and this one was no different. Drew you in from the start and just kept piling on the mystery. I have only given it a 4 because, unusually for me, I sussed out the plot, however I didn't see the twist or the end coming. I also love the personal aspects of Roy Grace's life being explored.

Left me not wanting to put the book down until the end
I really loved this book, all the twists and turns. The heart stopping moments. Peter knows how to grab you and not let go until the end. I have read all the Dead series, although each one is great in its own way I thought this one was very very good only topped by my favourite Dead Simple the first one.

Enjoyable as always
I have read, and thoroughly enjoyed, the Roy Grace books by Peter James up to, and including, this one. My problem is that I enjoy them so much that I find myself reading them very quickly. Trying to second guess Roy Grace and his team is part of the fun. Of course, Peter James always seems to have that covered. There was one passage in this book that made me wonder, namely, “There’s a drop in the Chanel, one mile north of the Palace Pier. Eight million quid’s worth of crack cocaine at street value.” I have never been particularly hot on geography but one mile north of the Palace Pier by my reconning is very much dry land. Perhaps however, as the chapter containing this passage was not central to this story, it will be re-visited by Peter James in a later book.

Three stories good-bad
This book wasn’t as good as previous ones since I guessed what happened with the murder right at the beginning and what was with the Bruno storyline?!?! I found the whole Bruno thing confusing and tedious as a recurring story in the series anyway but I figured that making him a complete psychopath was going somewhere.Alas no, after books and books of increasingly disturbing behaviour he strangles the pet chickens and gets hit by a car (possibly on purpose?) and honestly, they all seem a little relieved by his death. Wondering what the point was of reading about him for the last 10 books and why he featured so prominently if he served no purpose at all. Very frustrating as a reader.Bruno aside, there was Cassian Pew who also took up an unnecessarily large portion of this book. Hopefully, this thread will actually lead somewhere relevant. Finally, the actual plot of the crime which honestly was something of a background narrative was really predictable which was a shame because the early books were very good. I still quite enjoyed it though.
