I threw away my electric razor four years ago, in favor of a razor with multi-blade cartridges, and recently stepped up to a double-edge safety razor. Wanted to graduate to proper shaving soap at the same time and get rid of the canned shaving cream. Glad I made the change! And this bowl really works. It whips up thick, slick foam quickly and easily, and it's BIG (quite a bit bigger across than a shaving mug - just over 5" across). It's actually easy to make too much foam. Because it's ceramic and not plastic, it stays hot much longer.

This was my first and only shaving bowl. It is well made and works up a good lather. Holds heat pretty well too. Not really suitable for travel.

The ceramic dish retains heat and the rough inner bowl allows for excellent lather. The bowl is a little big, but fits nice in your hand. The cost is reasonable for this type of quality. I recommend this one!

Well made ceramic bowl is thick enough to withstand some abuse but light enough to hold. The ceramic is not glazed on the inside with a mild texture pattern that is just enough to help with lathering but not so aggressive as to wear out a brush. If it were a bit smaller it would be perfect but as is it is a great option for a lather bowl.

The ridges inside allow you to generate a nice lather within a few seconds. Of course the soap or cream you use makes a difference in the quality of your lather but this bowl works great regardless. A nice thing about ceramic bowls is that they are heavy enough to put your brush in it while shaving and the bowl will stay put. (The spout makes for a nice brush rest). I have a small copper bowl and it was so light I couldn’t rest my brush in it without it tipping over.

The grooves inside make leather in less than 2 seconds.... I wish it's unbreakable, but they got a make it with ceramic to ensure the inner surface grooves are real rough and grainy... Which creates exceptional leather.

As shaving bowls and mugs go, this works as well at making a thick lather as anything I've tried. The snowflake pattern breaks the larger bubbles up into smaller ones easily and the dense earthenware seems to keep the water content of the lather level throughout the shave. The glazed lip and spout/thumb rest is easier to grip when my hands are wet or soapy. The rougher surface inside the bowl also seems to be helping to condition the tips of my stiffer brushes through regular use...which is unexpected and pretty cool.There are a few ways I can see that it could be improved. First, the bowl could be thicker and deeper to better retain heat and allow for holding more bubbles. As it is, the shallowness and rolled lip let the lather slop out fairly quickly as it's being made. Similarly, if the earthenware were thicker, the bowl would feel more sturdy and could retain heat a bit easier. That being said, it doesn't necessarily feel flimsy. As a big guy who regularly breaks things by just touching them, I just tend to gravitate towards objects that are heavy and ridiculously overbuilt. As those are usually the only ones that seem to survive.That being said, this seems like a pretty damned good shaving bowl. Time will tell so if anything changes, I'll update this review with whatever I find.Happy trails wet shavers.

This bowl is of excellent quality and just the right amount of heft. It holds heat well and gives plenty of room for a huge amount of lather.
