It works better than anything I've tried in 30 years.
I read through some of the other reviews before I bought this product back in May, but I don't think there were as many as there are now. I've also read where a lot of reviewers don't like the smell and claim that it does not work for them. To each his own. While the jury is still out on the fragrance of this shampoo, I'd put my results against anyone else who claims it didn't work.I've tried a lot of shampoos and for a long time I was a fan of products that contain coal tar solution. I never had any luck with products where the active ingredient was selenium sulfide, pyrithione zinc or anything other than coal tar solution. I've tried them all. And then a few years ago the brands that I liked to use stopped using coal tar solution as the active ingredient and claimed a "new improved formula" - none of them worked for me. I ran out of what I was using because I couldn't find anything with coal tar other than T-Gel. And T-Gel worked in that it helped "control" my psoriasis and reduce plaques, but it never made my scalp healthy and its fragrance was nothing to brag about either. So I starting using a left over bottle of baby shampoo just to wash my hair until I could find something that worked. It was by accident using the baby shampoo that I realized my skin was sensitive to the surfactants used in mainstream brands. This is one of the reasons that baby shampoo is tear free - it has less harsh ingredients. My symptoms were reduced, but it still didn't get rid of the flaking and plaques I had on my scalp. I was further convinced that using a different shampoo formula was part of my problem when I stayed at a hotel and used the complimentary shampoo. Whatever cheap, harsh chemicals were in hotel shampoo caused my scalp to get worse in just one or two days of use.I found a shampoo at a natural foods retailer that was free of the harsh chemicals. I like the smell of it and it was supposed to assist with scalp health, but it still didn't eliminate the plaques. I then tried Grandpa's bar soap because this retails stopped carrying the shampoo. The bar soap helped, but it had a strong, funky smell. I put the bar inside a travel soap holder because it was so fragrant. I finally ordered Grandpa's shampoo from Amazon in May and have used it daily since. My scalp has never been healthier. I have no sores, no plaques, and no flakes. It is, by far, the best shampoo I've ever used to control my psoriasis. It does have a funky smell, and my wife is not fond of it, but I don't think the smell is as strong as Grandpa's bar soap. I am almost out of this first bottle, so I'm going to order it again with my next Amazon order and will order two bottles so that I'll always have a backup.7/9/2023 Update: I still use the product and now that I’ve grown a beard, I use it for washing my beard. I would get dry flaking, red, irritated, itchy skin on my face underneath my beard. This has eliminated this problem.

Made my wife itch, but better than a bar of soap for me.
I bought this for my wife, who uses and loves the Grandpa’s Pine Tar soap. It is fairly expensive, but if it helps her skin it would be worth it. She liked the scent but said it made her head itch (which is sort of the opposite of what it is supposed to do), so she won’t use it. I have been using it and it works well. I like the scent, it makes my hair (what’s left of it) soft, and does not make my head itch. I might not be the best person to judge shampoo, as (being an old guy) previously I washed my hair with a bar of soap.

Love It!
I love all Grampa Co. shampoo/conditioner, but the pine tar is my favorite! I actually bought this shampoo for my husband, but when I realized it made hair smell like camp fires I stole it lol My sister in law told me my hair reminded her of Summer camping trips, while she was hugging me :) I have looong hair, past my butt, and this shampoo keeps it clean, oil free, and soft. For me the camp fire scent is a bonus! :)

Great shampoo, terrible seller.
I love this shampoo - it smells great and leaves my hair and scalp feeling moisturized. However, this seller sent me the wrong shampoo. I literally spent hours trying to wrangle with the Amazon and the seller to rectify the issue, but it never helped. No returns or refunds on shampoos. I totally recommend this shampoo! Just buy it from a company that will actually deliver it to you.

I'm very torn...
The product, to me, smells just like a Beggin Strip. It's very off putting. I continued to smell it while my hair dried. It's very strong and left me feeling a little self conscious when I went out and about. However, I have struggled with my scalp for decades. I have patches of dandruff that are thick and itch and I will scratch it off until I bleed. It usually happens within a few hours of washing my hair and sometimes sooner. I washed my hair this morning around 12 hours ago and I do not feel the buildup in my normal spots nor do I have an urge to itch my hair. So does it work? Very, very well for me so far. Is the smell borderline unbearable? Yes. So I'm very torn on if I will continue to use it or if I would recommend it.

great product
I found this product to be very concentrated. Therefore, I found I needed only a small amount of this thick product to produce a full lathering on my head. I found the smell refreshing, perhaps this is due to only using a small amount. It is a very powerful cleanser, even when using a small amount, great care must be used to effect a full rinse out of the product. Otherwise, the hair will feel somewhat greasy or oily. You will know when the hair is thoroughly rinsed, when the hair is squeaky clean. Results of use of this product left my hair soft, and manageable, my scalp felt clean and refreshed. The slight smell that remained was a slight smell of pine, that lasted less than a few minutes. I do highly recommend this product, but, again, be careful to use it sparingly as it is highly concentrated, and care must be taken to completely rinse it out, to avoid leaving hair feeling oily or greasy. The rinsing out will take a considerable time to thoroughly wash the product out, so it will pay to be patient in this process. You will find the effort well worth the time.Shipment was very fast, without any glitch. Product arrived as advertised.

Excellent Shampoo
Bought this product and it did its job as I needed to take hard dandruff from my head. Tried to buy it again, the shampoo was not allowed through customs. Real shame

Good replacement for unavailable product
Polytar, the shampoo that saved thousands from the horrors of eczema and psoriasis for decades, for some reason has become unavailable, (I presume this is pending an adjustment in the formula or obtaining new supplies following recent EU legislation on coal tar).I bought this instead, for someone desperately searching for an alternative that can still be easily obtained.I hear generally good reviews of it and have tried it myself. The smell is more like a conventional shampoo, and less tarry than the Grandpa's brand bar of soap, or original Polytar. Yes, it has the faintest hint of tar - but it's really quite faint and undetectable once rinsed off.It makes a good lather and cleans well without stripping your hair. It also, most importantly, does soothe the scalp somewhat. It's not polytar, but it's OK. I prefer to just use the Grandpa's brand bar of soap for everything (shaving, washing, hair) - but if you prefer gel/shampoo, this is good stuff, give it a try.

Wonderful shapoo! I only use this one now.
I had itchy oily scalp but since I started using this. The itch has finally gone away! I love it!!! It did what Head 'n Shoulders didn't. I use it all the time. I know it's more expensive than some other shampoos, but I definately find it worth it. I also took care of 95% of my dandruff.
