Algae destroyer!
I can not believe how great this filter works! Installed on Monday afternoon and by Sunday morning the water was crystal clear. I love that it doesn’t take special filters too. 10/10 would buy again.

Quiet, functional, a little over-engineered
The UV bulb worked about 18 months, which is fine, but I could not find a replacement. I found three that fit the fixture but would not light up. Lack of a timer or replacement bulb make this less desirable than a discrete unit. The flow control O-rings lasted about two years. Replacements are cheap: 1/16" x 5/8" ID. Better not to have flow controls at all than have a part that wears out.I absolutely would buy again. For its main task it runs smooth and quiet and consistent.

Effective, quiet, easy to clean, few consumables
I've had an odd 37gal square-ish tank for 5 years now, and it's always been a struggle with algae and clean water without breaking the bank on expensive disposable filter cartridges. A complicating factor for mine is that there is an aquaponics bed on top and it's in a corner making room above and around the tank very limited.I've had this for about 6 weeks now, I've done cleaning on it 3 times in that time (there was a LOT of algae initially), but now that it's under control it's going longer between cleanings with no problems. What I absolutely love about it:-Minimal consumables. Occasionally you can change the filter floss on top, and every so often toss out the carbon and dump some more in. But the boxes make it so you don't even need bags for the carbon, and it's a tiny rectangle of filter: perfect for buying bulk material to save money.-Easy to clean: The first time it took me 20 or 30 minutes, but now that I'm practiced it's a 5-10 min chore at most.-UV Sterilizer: the UV sterilizer is a nice touch, and I don't know if it's intentional or not, but when the filter is clean, and the tank is not generating a lot of solid waste, it only flows a small amount of water through it. If the filter plugs up, more water gets sterilized. Almost like it's self-adjusting.-Noise: it's very quiet, as long as the water level is above the skimmer. When the water level falls below the skimmer, it starts skimming air (go figure) and it makes a quite annoying sound. I wish it didn't, but it motivates me to add water.-Pickup tube: it comes with an extension tube that makes it able to reach deeper in the tank than any other filter I've ever had.

This filter WORKS!!
I purchased this filter because my 20 gallon tank had a really bad algae bloom. In two weeks I had done 4 water changes, 20%, 40% 50%, 100%. I took the fake house and plants out cleaned them and let them sit in sunlight for two days. I even took the gravel out on the 100% water change, cleaned it and let the gravel sit in the sun for two days. I cleaned my old filter 2 times and put new media in the filter both times I cleaned it. Once I had cleaned everything and put everything back into the tank an algae bloom started in 5-7 days later. Out of frustration I purchased this filter as a last resort. I purposely purchased the 20-50 gallon filter because the algae was so bad. And I can state this filter works! I have uploaded five pictures to show the change. The first picture was from June 7 the day the filter arrived at my house. There is a paper in the back of the tank, on the first 4 pictures, to show how bad the algae bloom is . The second picture was taken around the same time on June 8. The third picture was taken around the same time as the others on June 9. The fourth was taken June 10. The fifth picture was on June 24 and the tank is very clean. The UV light was turned on June 7 and ran until June 23. The pictures were taken with the same zoom, f-stop, shutter speed, ISO, and aperture. The highest yellow fake coral point was the focus point on all. If you are worried this filter will not work my pictures have shown it really does. This is not an instantaneous fix and it takes time but you can see it will clean a really bad algae bloom in a fish tank. Buy this filter because it works!!!
