Q: does the Thermal Sleeve really make a difference keeping the coffee hot longer?

I did not buy the sleeve . The coffee stays warm already until the unit shuts off after two hours. I keep it unplugged as I had two other coffee makers catch fire theyw ere not this brand. The coffee is amazing that this one makes and if you hit the strentgh button it comes out as strong as Starbucks.

Q: Does the carafe lid come off for cleaning?

One would think so, however when I did remove it a tab broke and now the lid needs to be realigned every time for use. Not cool.

Q: Does this model have removable water reservoir?

No, the water reservoir is one piece with the machine.
