Q: Would this work for straining chai tea?

I don’t see why not. The strainer part holds pretty well (it’s not attached but clips in).

Q: How much liquid does this hold?

It holds about 1 cup of liquid ..

Q: Can you switch the sides of the strainer?

My immediate reaction was "no - that shouldn't be possible." But when I actually tried, I found that it IS possible. I don't know if switching sides would still make it strain as perfectly, but it's still a good sturdy fit so I'm going to leave mine this way and use it for awhile to find out for myself. I'll bet it works fine.
