As to the original cat clock that ran on electricity a long time ago, I cannot say for sure. The battery powered California Clock, Kit-Cat Large Clock like the one I have, the eyes and tail swing together left and right. **Q: It says in the listing that its 15.5" high, but in the description is says that 12" high....I know there are 2 different sizes not sure which it is.** A: I was confused as well, but it is the 15 1/2" one. At least that's what I received. **Q: Is it quiet?** A: Not only is it quiet...it is also an attention grabber! People from all walks of life comment about always having the KIT CAT clock in their house when growing up and everyone who sees it, asks where they can get one!! I bought this as a gift for my husband, because we like quirky items. This is a very cheap quality product. The pendulum stops swinging randomly, at least twice per week since we put it up (on Christmas). The batteries are heavier than the unit itself, and when we went to restart the pendulum swinging again the other day, they had corroded and leaked battery acid! I contacted the company, and they basically told me there was nothing they could do about it; I must go through Amazon or contact the manufacturer. Ugh. My advice is to save your money by not buying this one, and try to find an original. This is an overpriced piece of junk. I have wanted a Kit Cat clock since I was a child. Having been raised by someone born in 1950, I was told "those things are nothing new and are ugly". I never agreed, and when I grew up I decided I was going to get me one. I have my Kit Cat in my bedroom on the wall next to my TV and there I can see his cute little face. I have yet to see his tail move back and forth and have never seen his eyes move, either. I have the circular Kit Cat clock above my stove in the kitchen and he is also super cute.
