Simple setup and easy to use
Bought for my Mum, who is visually impaired. I set it up for her - the only issue we had relates to the strength of the DAB signal in different parts of her house, so not a product defect. I was really impressed with the ease of setup - you just press one button on the hidden control panel for FM or DAB, then another to auto-scan for channels. Once you have the channel list you just scroll through it to choose your three presets - saving them is as simple as pressing one of the three preset buttons on top for 8 seconds till you get a confirmatory beep. The chosen station is then indicated by an illuminated arrow next to the panel, on which you can write the station names. Spare paper blanks are also included included for these, which is a useful touch. The other controls are simple: On, Off and a Volume knob. The on and off buttons are convex and concave to aid the visually impaired. The sound (on DAB at least - haven’t tried FM) is much better than I expected, with great bass and clear speech rendering. All in all a really well thought-out product for the target audience.(Note I haven’t tried the Playlist channel, which needs a USB flash drive with downloaded MP3 files, but I’m sure it’ll be as simple to use as the other channel buttons. Instructions for setting this up seem to be clear and simple.)

good audio, easy to use
Works very well, good audio.once setup (which was no problem) it is very easy to use. in fact we may buy one for us just because its such a nice easy to use radio. its also a decent size, its not going to get lost. runs from PSU (supplied) or 4 x 'D' cell batteries that last a long time.

Saved stations can’t be erased
The biggest problem I was having was that my elderly relative kept losing the stations by pressing different buttons on her radio or TV. The secure back panel means she can’t mistakenly lose the saved channels which is brilliant. No more resetting every time she messes it up.This radio has very few buttons and is simple to use and has good quality sound.I did have a problem saving the preset channels. It took me a while and it was more luck than judgement that I figured it out but one stored everything is brilliant and it saves the stations even when it is unplugged. There’s nothing else like it’s on the market. It is quite expensive but worth itThank you.

A good radio/mp3 player for dementia despite a few niggles
I bought this radio for my dad who has Alzheimer's as he only listens to a couple of stations and was having trouble finding them when he had to retune on his old set, in addition some of the music that played wasn't to his taste so I wanted something that would play off an mp3 stick that I could load with his favourite music.Dad loves this player. It is very simple to use without lots of distracting displays and extra buttons which would just confuse him and I'm so glad I got it... however the unit does have some strange quirks that anyone buying it should be aware of...1) mp3 have to be copied over to the USB stick is a very particular way (outlined in the manual) and can't be nested in folders. If you don't copy them over EXACTLY as instructed then it will miss out songs or play them in a weird order. I have never come across this weird behavior in any other mp3 player before and it caused some confusion to start with.2) There is no way to skip forward or backwards with the mp3 tracks for the dementia user which means if there's a song they don't like they can't skip it, which is somewhat annoying.3) The volume dial turns smoothly but the volume itself is digital and goes up in jumps which is disconcerting.4) The sound quality is best described as "warm", it definitely favours the mid and low sounds, which at least for my dad was good as his hearing to high pitched sounds isn't very good.5) the FM tuning is a bit hit and miss, you can increase it on .5 steps but sometimes you need finer control for some local stations which is doesn't have.6) The labels that come with it have "MY PLAYLIST" already pre-printed for the 4th mp3 button. However for my 90 year old father he doesn't understand what that means and if I tell him he just forgets a few minutes later, it would have been nice if the labels were just completely blank so I could write in something he would understand.Having said all that, I am so glad I bought this device as it's made dad's life more pleasant.

Stopped working after 6 months
Initially this radio worked great - very simple for my mum to use. I even ordered a 2nd radio for her bedroom. But 6 months down the line and one no longer works at all and the other one is so temperamental it’s essentially useless… poor quality products with expensive price tags

Great for elderly
This is a great radio for my parents, one of whom is visually impaired and the other has dementia. It was easy for me to set up and really simple for them to use, with no accessible controls for my Dad to fiddle with and untune it. Good sound quality. I’ve bought 2 of them as my parents really liked the first and wanted another for a different room.

No power cable
Radio is nice and arrived on time. My issue is No power cable or plug adapter For this price a power cable should have been included. After contacting customer service I was told that this is to be purchased separately.

Top quality and easy to use
I bought this for my Dad who currently suffers from the later stages of dementia and is staying in a care home. He was a musical person before he became ill, playing in orchestras etc, and unfortunately staying in a home doesn't offer him much in the way of musical entertainment. Phones/iPods/normal radios are too difficult for him to use.Thank god we found this! It's simple and easy to use with large buttons that are unlikely to be pressed by mistake as well as an accessible display at the back that allows us to easily save my Dad's favourite stations. The customisable cards are a nice touch, and the box comes with extra cards for variation. Despite struggling with most simple tasks, my Dad is able to use this with little to no help!Watching him enjoy his favourite songs is a real delight and of course a great comfort to him. Absolutely recommend it!
