The Electronic Doppelgänger: The Mystery of the Double in the Age of the Internet

This book contains extracts of several Steiner’s lectures from the book “Secret brotherhoods and the mystery of the human double”. The great value of the book is the edition process by Andreas Neider, especially the valuable introduction and the afterword section relating the topics to this contemporary time in the age of the internet. Some of the reviewers of the book do not agree with the mentioning of the word “internet” in the book tittle but I think the editor tried to give context to these ideas and it is the way we, as readers, need to understand it. As you know, Rudolf Steiner talked a lot about future events, but it was not possible for him to provide specific details of that future for the 19th and 20th century readers. I do not think the editor introduced the word “internet” just to sell more books. These kinds of books are not best sellers, to the contrary, they are unfortunately interested to a very small audience.

Of course Steiner didn't write of "the internet;" that's obvious. The book is comprised of lectures or excerpts of lectures that have to do with the subject. Very thoughtful reading, especially with a similar looking volume, The Fall of the Spirits of Darkness, also by Steiner.

I have read some other works by Steiner and found them interesting, but this one seemed … delirious. He kept repeating himself and was basically raving about the doppelgänger. I may skip some sections of this, but am not sure I can continue reading it. I realize these lectures were happening during WWII, so the times were severe.

Incredibly interesting! Fascinating and prophetic, a cultural commentary on the world of the 'mechanical' and the 'electrical' and the human being's relationship to it. Certainly seems like Steiner foresaw the bizarre phenomena which surround us today. A thoughtful introduction, too. Do read it!

This is a great read, taken from a series of conferences from the great Rudolf Steiner. Very interesting read about The Arimanic Doppelganger...Very applicable to today, even if it was written 100 years ago.Rudolf Steiner thinking is very current indeed.

another great book from a great teacher

A very informative and interesting read.

Its interesting that this book in many ways tells us more about the internet and the world we live in than anything written in the 100 years since the lectures were given.
