I placed one of the magnets between the case and the phone and it works great!!
I have an IPhone 6s Plus with a Pelican protective case. It even works with my daughter's OtterBox. I was sceptical it would work with the different cases. However, I placed one of the magnets between the case and the phone and it works great!!! They even give extra magnets For other phones. I am very impressed!!!! I've tried at least 6+ different versions and this is the best!!!

Great product!I like that the metal plate can be adhered to the outside of your phone case or hidden by adhering it directly to your phone. The magnet will grip the plate through the case. They also give you a plastic sheet to put down before sticking the metal plate to your phone or case. This plastic is supposed to make taking the metal plate off easier if you need to in the future. The metal plate has a low profile and barely noticeable when holding the phone. The magnet holds strong. The option to swivel your phone is nice too. You'll want to make sure that your CD player is located in a place that will accommodate your phone. I drive a Jeep and the CD player is at the top of the dash so the position is great. But, I've seen some CD players which are mounted closer to the bottom of the console. If this is your car's design you'll want to make sure there's room for your phone to "hang".The other thing to consider about positioning is what your phone may obstruct on your dash. For me, the clock, radio dials and the A/C switches are partially blocked from sight and I have to reach around the phone to get to certain things but it's not too big a hassle in my opinion. If you want the option of moving this mount around in the car it's not the one for you. It will only work in your CD slot. But, I think I saw a window mount option from Mengo that uses a suction cup design. I've been burned by those things too many times to think this one will work though! The shipping was right on time.

Game Changing Design. Best mount I’ve ever used!
I drive a Kia Soul. The dashboard design makes it difficult to use mounts. There’s just not a good place to set one up. I’ve tried almost every design of mount, including suction cup/adhesive mounts for the windshield and dash and clips for the air vents. I found all of them so frustrating and impractical to use. This CD slot/magnetic mount was a total game changer. It doesn’t block any buttons or knobs on my dash. It takes up little room, is very easy to install/remove (no adhesives needed!), is sturdy, and the phone does NOT fall off the magnet. Even when the ride gets bumpy! The mount pieces is connected by swivel ball joint, and stays in position after you adjust it.The magnet design makes things sooo much easier! No more fumbling with an awkward phone clip! Simply set it on top before you drive and lift it off when you’re done and you’re good to go! If you get a phone call or need to pick up your phone at any point while driving, you can just lift it off. Again, no struggling with clips!Bonuses: 1) It comes with two one metal sticker plates. I have one inside my phone case and he has one in his, meaning whichever one of us is driving can easily use the mount even though we have two totally different phones. 2) GREAT PRICE! Mounts are typically SO expensive. Not this one!The only negative would be if you’re a CD person. But since it’s 2018 and you can stream anything you want, I doubt that’s an issue.Love, love, love. I’m probably going to order another one for my boyfriend’s car just because.

Subpar - it WILL break, and soon.
Like many reviewers who have rated this product subpar, my mount failed after only - get this! - less than three months.Installation was simple by not especially reassuring as one is driving a tension screw to wedge open the two opposing mounting surfaces inside a slot that was simply NOT designed to take this load. Yet, surprisingly it worked. The mount stayed in place. The metallic plate I placed inside my phone case worked quite well to stick the phone to the magnetic head with a crisp snap. The iPhone 6 was not in exactly the ideal position relative to the gear shifter in my Lexus LS 460, but that is not the fault of the mount. I'm confident that the Lexus engineers didn't design the dash and center console to accommodate a phone mount positioned in that spot. But no matter, it was adequate. That is it WAS adequate until the mount sheered off at the flimsy plastic leaves from only moderate tightening. A crashing disappointment for a product that showed such promise. Alas.Upon careful inspection (can't help trying to analyze a system failure - it's the engineer in me), it became abundantly clear that the weak design almost assures eventual failure. The plastic leaves are quite obviously not suited to take the stresses they must endure. So, fail it will, and the mount is now in the trash. If the mount had lasted a year, even six months, it would have earned three stars - it does its job. But a catastrophic failure after a mere 2 months?! Unforgivable.I will report back once I approach customer support. Perhaps they will make this right in some manner. Wish me luck.
