Alive! in Lisboa

This DVD introduced me to this high energy, totally under control, upbeat, positive lady whose spirit even transcends her music. I always watch the extras first. Sara is full of energy, enthusiasm, happiness, fun and love. She didn't stop effusing non stop about her music and won me over before I even heard a note.And when I did what great pleasure. She begins with a beautiful sole with only her playing the thumb piano.All the lyrics are in her native language (s). She is all rhythm and perfectly timed vocal flourishes that are propelled by her crack band of gutairs and pecussion. She plays the guitar.The rapid synchopation and complexity that is the African contribution to World Music underlies every track.How pathetic and commercialized the music of our young women singers is compared to hers when you compare her to our mainstream stars. Most of them are basically corporate creations.This is not to denigrate the off genre singers like Aoife O'Donovan, Allison Krause, Sarah Jaroz, Kat Edmondson, Nora Jones and a few others. They are great too, almost as young or younger, and elevate the more traditional and strongest aspects of American music: bluegrass, jazz, Americana.Similarly the depth and great traditions of African and Cabo Verdian music cannot be better represented than by Sara Tavares.

I fell upon Sara over a year ago and ordered this set. I have played it over and over again. She has a joyful gift that transcends any language. I recently played the dvd in the background of a party and within a few minutes of starting it, we were all gathered around to watch her perform for over an hour. It was a blast . . . we were all drumming along, singing and dancing to the beauty of Sara's voice and music. The value for what you get on this set is phenomenal. It is well produced and her back up group is equally gifted. You won't be disappointed - you'll end up wearing it out like I have!

Packaging was great... no problem

I dare you listen to Sara, I took a chance on this album (English Speaker) I was singing when I was done. I heard before do something out of character every now and again. That day I became her newest fan.

I love this CD. Ms. Tavares's voice is warm, melodic, sensual, and inviting and is expertly complemented with her acoustic guitar playing. Even though I'm not a Portugese speaker, I highly, highly recommend this CD and can't wait for her next work.

I was fortunate enough to see Ms. Tavares live at the San Francisco Jazz Festival in 2007 and this DVD in this box set captures the exact good vibes you feel while watching her in person. Even if you already have her two albums, like myself, this purchase is worth the dupes.I highly recommend it....

I absolutely adore Sara Tavares and have all of her albums. My comment here is on the live DVD. Like moronic clapping audiences the world over, this audience ruined a good portion of the live performance with their out of time clapping. That's why I don't go to concerts anymore.

I'm always chasing talent from out of the way places. I thoroughly enjoyed this DVD and CDs. Well worth the money.

A friend gave me a copy of this to listen to a few years ago. I loved it so much they never got it back! I played it to death - the tracks began to skip and whirr annoyingly...clearly a sign of performance fatigue, so I bought a second copy. The songs haven't aged. Sara's voice is utterly uplifting and she has the talent to take you on such a sunny and exotic journey, you'll be sad to return to the rainy uk. The price range for this CD/DVD was sometimes extortionate which delayed my chance at buying it sooner but I'm glad I held out until the right seller came along.

Great cd. A must buy for anyone that enjoys world music. Sara Tavares has a wonderful voice. If you buy this cd you will not be disappointed.
