This is a very comfortable pencil to use. The knurling concerned me a bit, as I have had mechanical pencils from other brands which had an almost sharp edge to the knurling at the grip. This Rapidomatic, however, has a grip which provides superior grip and control, and yet is comfortable after hours of use. The pencil is also extremely easy to reload when the time comes. I will note here that Amazon made a botch job of my first order and shipped it unwrapped or padded in a box with shampoo bottles and other items. The nib arrived bent. With such a fine opening at the tip of the pencil there was no bending it back into shape. The exchange for a new one was painless and Amazon made it as easy as possible, so no fears there, but these somewhat delicate items should be packed better either by Koh-i-Noor or by Amazon themselves. I do encourage anyone interested in a quality fine line pencil to order one, but I would suggest that you order it individually and not with other household items

Best purchase for a quality pencil. Feels great and is sturdy.

The Rotring 500 is the more refined version of the two, but the Koh-I-Noor has the option of 0.3mm, so I got it. The clicks on the Koh-I-Noor are HORRIBLE. It feels and sounds really, mushy compared to the Rotring 500 (see video). The Rotring overall sounds more solid, and the plastic feels more premium, but functionality wise they are both identical. The Koh-I-Nor engraves its text onto the pencil though, while the Rotring has a shallow print. The engraved part feels rough to the touch, which is another point to the Rotring. No, the parts are not interchangable. Both take Pentel z2-1n eraser refills.

1yr+ of use and the tip fell off its now useless but for spare parts i guess its not fit for purpose to do heavy duty design calculations after all i do NOT recommend UPDATE spoke w CS at Koh and they provided a courtesy replacement very satisfied and very excited to work with it again bc it is an awesome device, very well balanced nicely designed for fine detail annotations rerated from 1 to 5 i DO recommend!
