Worked Great to Drive my 8" Ice Auger for Winter Fishing
I use this drill for drilling holes in the ice to fish in the winter. I have a 8" diameter hand auger and the hand-crank part was a little bent, making it difficult to use. The main part of the shaft with the flights was fine, so I purchased this drill in hopes that it was powerful enough to drive the ice auger. Plus, I already had some DeWalt 5Ah batteries from other tools I own. I live in Colorado, and the ice was about 20 inches thick that winter. I was able to drill several holes without any problems. In the end, way cheaper than a full dedicated electric ice auger setup.......and now I also have a powerful drill for anything else that might require it.

Worst DeWalt Tool I’ve Ever Used
First, it was delivered in a cheap plastic bag!! It looked new and undamaged so I thought I’d keep it. When I tried to loosen the chuck it wouldn’t loosen. It would only go in the tighten direction and it had a loud click like a ratchet does. After appempting to loosen the chuck many many times I heard a click and it started working. I bought it mainly for my lightweight ice auger for ice fishing. After going about 75 miles to the lake and walking a long way out, I attached the drill to my auger. It started to spin but when I put a little downward pressure the drill stopped turning. I tried it many times and changed the speed and power settings and nothing made it drill better. A friend also had a DeWalt drill and used it with my batteries and he drilled 12 holes with it and the ice was 30 inches thick. Upon returning home I used it to drill some screws into the wall for mounting a shelf. It worked ok but didn’t have the power I expected it to have. I tried to attach it to my ice auger again and the chuck wouldn’t tighten down on it and just came off the chuck again couldn’t be loosened any more, only tightened with the “ratchet” clicks again. I returned it but I packaged it much better than it was when I received it.
