Bosch CityMower 18 Cordless Lawnmower

Compared to our old hover mower, it is very tidy with no grass cuttings spread over footpaths and roads. The only mess comes when taking off the grass collection box, which seems designed to drop bits of grass on the floor!Easy to assemble but at points a third hand would have been useful.Very light so easy to lift up and store on a chest-high shelf at the back of the garage.The wire from body to the handle is a mess and does not sit out of the way. Even where it comes out of the body it seems designed to stick out wider than the mower so that it will catch in bushes at the edge of the lawn. I've used two cables ties in addition to the two clips.It mowed my front and back lawns and my neighbour's front lawn and still had capacity.Mowed all the way to the edges, easy yto manoeuvre but but wheels are a little more awkward than hover.It does not cut short enough. I cannot imagine why I'd ever want the longer settings unless I had a field.

Having just purchased the Bosch strimer in the same range, we loved the manoeuvrability and speed that you can use it. we also noticed that as we weren't twisting to avoid running over a wire, it wasn't hurting our backs. so we ditched a perfectly good mains electric mower for this.The construction is similar to the mains version, and the way it works is almost identical. i think its fair to say that they have made some of the items super lightweight so that they can increase battery performance, and as a result some of the plastics feel a little cheap for the cost. however if you can look past that, the mower works perfectly, and the lightweight construction makes its so much easier to move around on the grass.The battery is very fast to charge, and we have never run out or even got close.The only thing i do miss is the roller at the back that all the mains Bosch mowers have. This gave my lawn some impressive stripes which were very noticeable. Unfortunately this battery version doesn't have that, which again is probably for weight saving. Apart from that, we love this new mower and would never go back to mains again.

Assembling the mower was relatively easy and while I appreciate the cost is more to do with the battery technology, I could not help feeling in the assembly that the quality of the mower felt cheap plastic and for the price, I was disappointed.I had a perfectly good flymo which is only a few months old but have become a big fan of the battery garden tools since i managed to slice through my lead on a hedge shearer we had.Now have the hedge shears, lawnmower and strimmer all in the Bosch battery mode and really pleased with the concept and not having extension leads or product leads all over the garden is a real boost.

Decided to purchase this to replace existing corded Flymo. Two reasons - fed up of tangled cables and also grass flying everywhere when cutting. Initial impressions when unpacking matches others here - plastics feel lightweight and the entire thing feels a bit 'fisher price my first lawnmower'. However, I think that this is for a reason - lightweight to save battery and to improve manoeuvrability. Reasonably easy to put together although instructions could be better in my opinion. Battery came mostly charged so was up and running in 30 mins. Really happy with performance. Only have a small lawn - around 3 x 10m and it was so quick and easy to mow with this. Lowest cut is 30mm which is a little high but more than adequate. Took quarter of time to mow lawn compared to wired lawnmower due to lack of faff with wires and clearing up - there was no mess at all. Very easy to move and battery easily lasted. Really pleased with this purchase so far and recommend.

Generally I am very pleased with this lawnmower. It is light and easy to handle (I particularly wanted to use it on a sloping area where my petrol mower is too heavy) and it does the job well. Battery life is good and lasts about 20 mins. It also takes the same batteries as other Bosch tools so I can use Bosch "power for all" batteries from other Bosch tools if the main battery runs out or I need more time. Although light, the build quality is good and it is much easier to use against fences or in difficult positions than a heavier lawnmower. Recommended for small gardens or if you use a heavier petrol mower and want to supplement it with something easier to manoeuvre.
