Easy Read but Hard to understand, Gritty and Punk-esk.
It was hard to understand at first and to get a picture of what exactly was going on. This is the first Cormac McCarthy book I’ve read so I can’t judge him, only the book. I enjoyed the fact that there isn’t any chapters or traditional grammar used, which I love, and it felt the same as when I read Trainspotting, although with less dialect to wrap my head around. The gritty scenes were good but I wanted more of it as this is the only time I was paying attention. Would love to see this on the big screen, or rather small Netflix screen as it would be in our day and age. Interested to read more. Would recommend to anyone who’s got a day free and wants to have a good read. Easy to get through, but hard to understand and imagine scenes at times.

Dark and enjoyed the story but felt short.
I think Cormac Mccarthy is always worth ready for just the prose. It's dark and says a lot about isolation. I would recommend this to someone who like McCarthy, horror or serial killers. But I didn't feel there was as much to take away from the novel his other works. It felt short and the chapters were short as well. So was only 1 or 2 pages long which made it hard to get into.Still enjoyed it for the most part and may did it out again some rainy day in the future but on the whole I think the novels he wrote after this one are far superior

Bizarre, unique, brutal and disquieting funny
This is a compulsively readable work from one of the most fearless, bizarre, brutaland hilarious minds around. It is remarkable anyone would write this disquieting tale, yet more remarkable that such an oddity of an anti-hero should make for such a gripping and queerly amusing leading man. This is at times revolting in content but sublime in delivery. I have read it repeatedly.

Short and not very sweet
This is a very short book - at 200 pages it's more in novella territory than anything. Having said that, it tells its story sparsely, with no words wasted. Interestingly, it doesn't establish a time-frame for the story until almost the last page, and I think it's telling that you can imagine this story still taking place today. McCarthy makes no attempt to lecture, moralise or empathise with the characters in the story. It's pretty much a case of "This is what happened, go figure".All in all, a refreshingly "honest" book, and one well worth reading.

McCARTHY hits the spots -if it's your cup of tea!
A story written some 30 years ago by Cormac McCarthywhich includes some graphic and very unpleasant scenes, hits the spots for those who seem him as a great writer on the US scene- like me!There is an evolution in his work, so that its intensity grows as you read itand his use of language is remarkable - some wonderful imagery and locations. Not everyone will like this book - its contents do not make for easy readingbut are well worth the effort.
