This wood has been great to carve. Not alot of tight grain, so it has been great for my armature carves. This was maybe the 4th or 5th order I have done. Differant sizes. All have been great. I might get a block that is a little harder, but I think that's just thee luck of the draw.

It's basswood. No knots. Good quality.

I have bought several packages over the past couple of years and the wood is always good and consistent.

The wood strips are 1x1 inch and not undersized. The basswood is of reasonable quality. They tend to be somewhat more harder than premium white basswood but not bad. Carve a piece of poplar and these will seem like butter by comparison. There are numerous 1x1 carving tutorials on the internet for beginners. More important than the wood is the quality of the knife. A good flat ground, thin bladed , razor sharp knife makes a world of difference. Such a knife will typically run from 30 dollars and up.

Some of the better Amazon bought basswood. Light, no knots, cuts clean.

Good quality blocks for a good price, perfect for the "5 minute carving" classes my husband teaches in local youth groups.

These blocks were very hard and difficult to carve. Beavercraft was not available to contact. No phone number. no web page seemed to work. Wanted Gmail which I could not contact through.Wood might have been very old. I do not no why the wood was hard. My tools were new and sharp. Maybe my error.
