A Commentary on Romans

Love the book! Love the author! Was searching for a commentator on scripture that I could trust to use for teaching and David Pawson has exceeded my expectations. My husband has since purchased and read eight of his other books. He has a fantastic perspective on the Jewishness of the Bible which is of great importance in understanding scripture. Easy to read. Not a verse by verse narrative but overall comprehensive!

Provides well grounded information.

This is the only Commentary on Romans that I want to read. It's clear and easy to understand. It's priceless to me as a pastor who needs to prepare a sermon every week. I love the conversation style of the writing. It truly nourishes my soul.

David Pawson is a senior respected biblical scholar. This little book is a fine summary of decade of study and exposition.

David Pawson likes to shift the focus away from the glorious Gospel message explained in the Book of Romans. So he'd rather focus on a minor issue concerning Jewish believers in the Roman church. I think this misleading commentary is pretty much useless to most Christians.

Having heard David Pawson speak and to have met with him. I am delighted to have this copy of his very readable commentary on Romans

This book is one of the most compact explanations of the book of Romans I have every seen and the author does a wonderful job of providing an outline that is far more useful than the arbitrary chapter divisions that we have been handed down. The book is as useful for a pastor as it is for a layman in the study of the book of Romans.David Pawson has revealed to me the importance of studying the cultural background while doing the Bible study of any book of the Bible. In this commentary on Romans, he reveals to us the reason for which the letter to the Romans was written. Paul, having no direct authority over the church in Rome, since neither did he plant it, nor did he water it, nor did he ever meet with any of them - how was he to have any credibility while writing to them. This explains the painstaking time and effort Paul takes in the initial part of the letter. The church which was initially Jewish, then turned largely Gentile, then completely Gentile because the Jews were thrown out of Rome, started questioning if the Jews were truly part of God's plan of salvation, as is often questioned today.Paul wanted to show them how the Jews were as much a part of the church as the Gentiles were. And this is why he writes this letter. In fact Romans 9-11 is the climax of the letter. How Paul builds up the narrative to that point is important.I am greatly indebted to David Pawson for enlightening me with both the importance of a Sermon Outline (In deed any of his chapters could be used as a Sermon outline for those interested) and the importance of studying cultural backgrounds of books of the Bible. Amazing commentary and an excellent teacher. One to the best so far who is able to lead the reader to the core of Scriptures without getting lost in a wealth of information.
