Great read
Wonderful book, extremely readable.Effectively deals with centuries of well researched Irish history via a series of 'linked' novelletes (the chapters).Nothing dry about these novelletes, exciting and captivating stories woven around historical events, you won't be disappointed.Have now bought the second book which continues the story (Ireland awakening)

Dublin by Edward Rutherfurd
I have read all of Rutherfurd's books and always been delighted with them. They are all beautifully written and in an interesting way that makes it difficult to put the books down, And they are meticulously researched. The result is that Rutherfurd brings history alive for a lot of people who otherwise might not be so interested in learning about times past. Dublin is no exception. It is a splendid account of the evolution of yet another great city and once again I was both enthralled and delighted. A wonderful book and well-worth reading.

Satisfying read
I'm only halfway through this book but I've read others by this author and haven't been disappointed yet. Always well researched and interesting and this is no exception. It is a long book and sometimes a bit slow but well worth persevering with - a good read.

A very highly enjoyable read
This is another of Edward Rutherfurd's magnificent historical sagas; his way of writing of historical events, interwoven with a number of fictional families, which he uses to relate the historical facts, by making the fictional characters experience/be an active part of the historical events, truly is amazing! For anyone who is, possibly, not as well-informed on historical events as they might wish to be, Rutherfurd's very detailed, excellent historical novels would be a perfect way of acquiring a lot of historical knowledge, via a very enjoyable read, which could well then inspire the reader to read some scholarly history books on the various periods of Irish history described so vividly in Rutherfurd's excellent series.I've read the second of Rutherfurd's Irish saga (Ireland Awakening; but that was not bought from Amazon); it, too, is an excellent, very informative and very enjoyable read.

Dublin by Edward Rutherfurd
I really enjoyed this book, which followed Rutherfurds tried and trusted method of taking the story right to the beginnings of time and working forward. I love the way he follows the fortunes of 5 or 6 families and at the same time letting us know the history of Dublin. I am not so keen on the pages of political history that accompanies the story but I suppose with a 'history' of you have to have some! All in all a very good book, leaving you wanting to read the sequal (Ireland Awakening).
