This AP is awesome for the most part. It was super easy to setup, and pretty much worked out of the box. I have it connected to a Juniper switch and a PFSense router.That being said, I was a bit unhappy that it requires a constant connection to AWS to function. Basically if your internet connection drops, or there is an AWS outage, your WiFi will not work as the AP goes into an error state. If I had known this I may actually have considered not getting this AP. If you are okay with the AWS connection though this thing works great. Hopefully in the future there will be a self hosting option.

Using 4 of these APs in a Church to provide parishioners with WiFi internet access. I was concerned about the range and flexibility of these APs, but they are working extremely well. Each AP is CAT-6 cabled back to a firewall connected to the ISP router. After setting up an account at Aruba I was able to set up the first AP into the site and set up a SSID within a few minutes of power on. Each additional AP was able to be quickly and seamlessly added into the site and began broadcasting all defined SSIDs. Connected devices automatically switch to the AP with the best signal as people travel through the building. Portal S/W makes it easy to change settings from web login and/or mobile phone app. Site restrictions can be set to block access to sites by categories, to keep users from navigating to sites you may not want them to access. This is kind of important in a Church environment. SSIDs can also be set to only allow users to have a limited amount of bandwidth. There is even logging for sites visited in the previous 24 hours. There is an option to require users to acknowledge a terms of use statement to be able to use the Wi-Fi that works great. The only problem is, using that option requires no password, so anyone that is in range can use the Wi-Fi simply by acknowledging the terms. It would be better if you could require acknowledgement of terms and require a password if desired, but that is not an option.

Aruba Instant On is the new force to be reckoned with in midsize, small business and high end home use. If you can keep your RF domain at 25 APs or less in a given structure these cannot be beat. Very impressed with how they have performed from a throughput and reliability standpoint. Roaming is seamless even with VOIP, no drops, no lag. Firmware updates are automatic and super smooth. I'm always on the latest update and have yet to experience a bug. I've seen these work in various business environments with happy users and basically no tuning required. And I personally use them in my home environment. Couldn't be happier. Great product at an incredible price point.

Great AP, however, it's only cloud managed and I wanted something I could manage locally.

The AP15 access point works great. Although it tops out at 802.11ac / Wi-Fi 5, it still does a great job and supports VLAN tagging and Layer 7 Application Control.

The cloud feature is included with the purchase. Note that once installed, management of this product is cloud only.High ceiling/wall mount is recommended. Done, though this isn't easy, since you typically won't have ethernet up there. I mention this only because Aruba and the other manufacturers which offer this advice aren't helping this with the installation kits they provide. You're pretty much on your own, on the ladder, cables dangling over your shoulder.Firmware updates are handled well. This is often handled poorly, relying on consumers to monitor for updates and apply them manually.If you're not on PoE (802.1af Class 2), you'll have to order a 12V DC adapter. That said, the PoE's available from various sources such as switches (or single port injectors) might be not much more than the cost of the adapter - maybe shop around before shelling out for the adapter. We tested the AP15 with PoE from a 5 port desktop gigabit Netgear switch.Advertised performance: 1733 Mbps on 5 GHz (.11ac) | 300 Mbps on 2.4 GHz (.11n).Tip: If you're using this for IoT devices -- vs. powering laptops in the garden -- it's the 2.4GHz specification that matters. Most IoT devices aren't smart enough to do the crawl in the 5Ghz swim lane.Because it's HP, I am going to speculate that the cloud resource will be more durable and persistent than some of the alternatives where the cloud resource is a bit of an afterthought.Installation via the mobile app was polished, one of the strongest features of the unit.
