Inconsistent
Spoiler Alert in this review!Loath to write anything negative about Peter James, however -Love the Roy Grace books but I felt this was 100 pages too long. A character introduced a couple of books ago and seemingly with quite a backstory and perhaps interesting future was killed off. Seems as if the author wasn't sure how to proceed with their development. We then had pages and pages of hospital detail, and interminable extracts of Grace crying. Not really relevant to the main theme. Secondly a situation introduced in the opening section just petered out at the end.The main storyline, as ever was clever with an interesting plot twist and fast paced in true 'James' style, but disappointment with 'I Follow You', his last book, and now this weakly edited book left me disappointed. Sorry!

An absolute page turner
Enjoyed this latest book soooo very much, I read it in two days, I just could not put it down. Its ful of twists and turns, brilliant clever story line, a 100% better than his last effort, which I still have to be convinced he even wrote it was so awful. The wonderful thing about this latest book is that, the one person that I absolutely detested has been written out, so to make it perfect, can we please not have to keep reading again and again about the hateful boring Sandy. We have had to endure this pathetic woman for too many books.

There were moments that floored me
Peter James has a knack for creating realistic characters that feel like mates or neighbours. He has a flair for writing about the human condition, society, and how our history shapes us in such a flawless way you feel as though you're working these things out about these invented people yourself. The story just flows because if it. I thought I had this book all worked out and was gob-smacked by the revelation towards the end. I absolutely loved this book! But there were a couple of things that niggled. There was no need to repeat 11 times that Eden was missing, or the circumstances surrounding her disappearance. And the add-on of a potential plot for the next book appeared quite randomly in a chapter of its own with no prior suggestion and only one mention much later on when I'd almost forgotten about it. I felt this could have been woven into the novel much better by evenly spreading it throughout in little increments. Having said that I'll look forward to the next one, as always. I'm a recent fan. And I'm so glad I found this authors works when I did.

Read in two days!
Like others, I was a bit disappointed by the previous book in the series, this was a great return to form! I was questioning every action, piece of evidence as I read it and could barely put it down, this meant I'd finished it within two days of picking it up and now have the long wait until the next one. No spoilers but, plenty of twists and turns, fans of Peter James/Roy Grace will be pleased to see a return to the shocks that we've had over the years.

left You Dead.......Bored
I have been an keen reader of Peter James' books for a long time. But if this had been his first I would not have read any others. Talk about long-winded. Way too much waffle about police procedure, and who said what to who and why. most of it unnecessary and frankly boring. We were supposed to believe that senior detectives had totally lost the plot and were jumping to wrong conclusions that were obviously (to anyone with half a brain) a stitch-up. There was very little of the book given over to actual plot, and the deja-vu ending merely served to emphasise that the author had run out of fresh ideas. I won't be reading any more of his books.
