Great product
Made a bar window and used this as the opening mechanism and it totally worked.Instructions for the specific length I purchased were not included, but the ones for the normal lengths were included.

Worked great but the sizing instructions could be a bit clearer
I bought a pair of the 80lb struts for my crawlspace access cover (4' by 5' plywood and covered in asphalt shingles) and while they work great but I feel I got lucky with the sizing. I was quite confused by whether the sizing instructions referred to a single strut or a pair and where you should measure the door weight: at the edge farthest from the hinge or where the struts will be attached. I'm still not sure :)Anyway, they hold the door up nicely and were easy to install. Oh, BTW, you can install these two ways, with one end on the fixed frame close to the hinge and the other end farther out on the door, or the reverse: one end on the door close to the hinge and the other end farther out on the frame. The pictures show doing the former with a horizontal door opening with the hinge on top and the latter with a horizontal opening with the hinge at the back. I did mine the first way even though I have a horizontal opening. Not sure if it makes any difference.

Brackets are not strong enough
I bought a 180lb set of these gas springs. They work, but the problem is the brackets bend as you operate the springs. When I open the lid I attached them to it springs right up, but when I go to close the lid, it bends the mounting brackets where the ball screw bolts onto the bracket. It bends it really badly and then the lid starts to close. It seems the brackets are not rated for the same force as the gas springs. It wouldn’t be a huge deal if I could easily find a heavy duty set of mounting brackets, but after a 1/2 hour of online searching I came up with nothing, at least nothing simple. I’m going to have to fabricate some brackets out of 1/8 or 3/16 inch steel.
