Re-Read Review September 2018:I really can't think of a single thing to add to my original review that would express how wonderful this novella is other than, it's shortness may be in the number of pages but not in the quality of the story. His Grandfather's Watch had me even more teary-eyed now than it did when I first read it three years ago. It is rare that you get two heart felt love stories in a novella but that is exactly what this little gem brings to the table.I chose to re-read this now in honor of Grandparents Day but whenever you decide to pick it up you won't regret it and I highly recommend reading this one because not only will you be entertained but you might also learn a thing or two about understanding your family's past. I know I can honestly say that had I not already been deeply invested in my family genealogy this story would have had me itching to discover my family's past.Original Review July 2015:This novella may be a short quick read but it is more powerful than many full length novels I have read. I was sitting in my front yard under the shade of my maple tree and was so glad I had sunglasses on because otherwise I probably would have scared the children playing across the street when the tears started running. The blend of contemporary and historical is perfect for the emotional buildup for the story the watch represents. The historical part of the watch's tale touched my heart a bit more but I am a bit of a history buff so stories of the past usually do. As my mother's 24/7 caregiver for the past 20 years, when Callum said "My life hasn't been about me in a long time" really struck a chord because in those 10 words she summed up what every caregiver lives not to mention the kind of man Callum is and the fact that Alex understands it also goes a long way in describing his character as well.I rarely give novellas a full 5 bookmark rating just because my heart prefers full length stories but this is such a powerful emotional ride that nothing short of the full 5 is fitting.

A good story
This was a good story. It has some good characters and the storyline was good. Too graphic for me in parts, but I just skipped them.

Please read this book!
It’s been a while since I read anything by NR Walker, but it’s clear to see that she hasn’t lost her touch when it comes to conveying emotion. There were only a very few editing mistakes, but barely even noticeable, let alone causing a problem. This was an amazing book, I loved it from beginning to end. The first 6 chapters, up to about 66%, is the story of Alex and Callum. Even though I pretty much figured out most of the story of the watch’s history before the MCs did, it was still great how the author brought it all together. Callum was so very sweet and loveable, and Alex was so patient and great with him. They had a good relationship that, unlike a lot of stories these days, actually started without them jumping into bed within the first 72 hours. I loved how Alex’s family was not only very accepting of Alex’s sexuality, but they treated him no different, practically pushing him into Callum’s arms. Even though their story didn’t end quite the way I would’ve wanted, it still ended with an HEA, so I was happy with that.I was a bit surprised when I turned the page at 67% and saw the actual story behind the watch, being relayed in the book. I don’t know how Ms. Walker could make a story so beautiful and yet so heart wrenching at the same time. It was actually moving. Even the ending was sweet. It is very rare for me to give a book 5 stars, but I think the 2nd story is what pushed it over into that territory for me.

Beautiful story
Damn this was good. I love emotional stories and this was definitely emotional. It could have gone so wrong especially with Billy and Hale's story at the end.The first story was emotional in its own way, but the second story... Damn! Even though it was very hard for me to read, I thought N.R. Walker did an amazing job with the second story as well as the first. Where the first one had me smiling, the second one made me feel very sad and emotional in general.Alex and Callum were the cutest. I loved Alex's family and the supportive, embarrassing family they were. Their presence in the book was a huge bonus. The relationship between Callum and Alex left me feeling all warm and fuzzy inside. And I just adored both of those characters. That's another thing N.R. Walker is good at, making me fall in love with both MC's.The thing with the watch and the initials... I did kinda guess who the B was after I heard the second name. And I thought Callum's granny was a great older character and her part in both stories was very... tragic almost. I felt like she was a beautiful character and I wish she'd had her own happy ending.Overall, this was a really great story and I think the ending of both was perfect!

two gay men discover each other and a secret
I'm sure you know by now that this is a story of two gay men discovering each other and a secret from one's past. I thought the story was a good one. However, the characters one man's parents and his brother. He is a 23 year old man and his family treats him like a 10 year old boy with a first crush. His brother, Scott, is an obnoxious ass. I could not stand him. He was just smut. I would have like to take him behind the barn and given him what for!!! I did not like him. then his parents. OMG, they treated him like a child. It is like when someone is overly OK with a person being gay and then proceeds to set them up with everything that walks by and then acts like they are so cute. They got on my last nerve. I don't know how he could stand any of them.I did quit reading. I thought the story had a lot of potential and I would get an insight and understanding of a gay relationship but I just felt sorry for both guys. It is bad enough that they can get bullied but then you run into his family and they are even worse. Couldn't stand them. Couldn't read any more and have to watch him endure their teasing and "help" with finding his way. If you like gay romance stories I think you will probably like this one. It just wasn't for me because of the side characters.

Loved it
Hmmm, what can I tell you about this wonderful story without giving too much away????Well, I can start by saying the writing is great. It flows well, and glides from one scene to another almost seamlessly. The characters are believable and endearing. You get pulled straight into their lives and the story they are trying to uncover. One slight spoiler for you – There’s an extra bit to the story at the end…make sure you don’t miss it.My favorite part was:"His words became a little slurred and eventually his breathing evened out. He fell asleep in my arms, and for the first time in what I’d imagined felt like forever, he slept like a baby."I think this part really shows how close Alex and Cal have become and how Alex is just what Cal needs. But of course to find out where this part is, you’ll have to read the book…
