Ideas That Created the Future: Classic Papers of Computer Science

If you want to know where computer science came from, this is a must read.
This is a treasure trove of must-read papers that anyone interested in the development of computer science should read. Apart from being a solid collection, the introductory material masterfully crafted by Lewis provides excellent context. The book originated from a discussion course the author taught at Harvard, and re-reading it after having taken the course from him, was like revisiting old friends. So much of what is published in CS revolves around where the state of the art is *now*, without regard to history - this book fills that important gap and does it well!

Amazing
It’s a great book, so interesting to see the progress, and what people were thinking at each step of the way. Also it’s informative in the respect that it’s not just a history book but you actually get to understand the technical details underlying some of the advancements.

Overdue retrospective ...
Some of these papers are hard to come by, even though they are "classics".Enjoyed the accompanying, provocative writeups.

Very enlightening history
I loved reading (English translations of) the early papers (back to ancient Greece) that led to the rise of our current computer assisted world.
