great book, great edition
not much i can say about this masterpiece that hasn't already been said. i love it to bits, you know it's fantastic, alan moore is a genius, we get it. as for the edition itself, the book came in excellent condition, the artwork looks stunning, and the extra features add to the Watchmen experience. the cover art is also my favorite version of the trade paperback, though that's a matter of personal preference. overall, great purchase of a great edition of a great read.

Great
The book is great. 3 starts because the version is not the one in the picture, is the one with the HBO logo.

Massively Disappointing
I think the hype and rave reviews for this had my expectations raised too high. The artwork is fantastic, however the story is an absolute mess. It bounces around from one narrative to another, making little sense in the progress. Towards the end of the book I still wasn't much wiser as to what was going on; it appears a handful of people are trying to find a murderer.I read and loved V for Vendetta, but this has turned me off so much and I think the plethora of characters is a big part of that. It also comes across as trying a bit too hard some of the time, basically being hipster before the term hipster was invented.Off to eBay it goes.

The artwork is truly sumptuous and coveys so much of the unwritten tale
.(This review is for the Watchmen, International Edition – this is a nicely bound soft cover version the title)If anything, Watchman is an examination of the history of the genre and purpose of the superhero: how readers connect to it, and what it means rationally. Moore stretches from fond parody to outright sedition, wrapping the once-simple genre in layers of meaning. This is a tale where he also constantly pushes its boundaries. Watchmen is unrepentant and unwavering in it delivery. There are no real heroes here - for most Superhero narratives, up until the publication of this title, these Superhero comics were all usually built around wholly compassionate, venerable characters. They represent what people wish they were, and they do the things normal people wish they could do. It doesn't deliver on every level, it isn't perfect, but it contains so much that succeeds, and comes so close to fulfilling its promises that it would be almost crass to mention any failings.Alan Moore is a great writer. He is not a great writer for comics; he is a great writer period, who happens to have made the graphic novel his medium. Watchmen is at times legendary, funny, scholarly, sad, exciting and intriguing. It is written for intelligent readers. The plot, at times, does sprawl - it is convoluted, and it spans generations with a large ensemble cast. What kept it together are the deeply personal narratives on various scales. This is a fun read. It is exciting. The artwork is truly sumptuous and coveys so much of the unwritten tale.Read it. If someone sneers at you for reading, a comic book just ignore them..

Greatest graphic novel
What's there to say that has not already been said about this masterpiece. I first read it in the 90's and was blown away. Same effect today. The characters are deeply touching and Moore is at his genius best here. A couple of panels just bring home strongly what the characters are thinking, feeling and striving for. Even little cameos like the kid reading a pirate comic come across strongly. Different characters are portrayed so well that it is as if eight people were writing this novel, each articulating what a particular character is saying. The artwork is sublime and fits the script beautifully. Quite simply if you like comics you have to get Watchmen. It's simply the best.

Surprised
Having seen the film I genuinely wasn't expecting it to have followed the graphic novel so closely. I didn't like the film upon first watch but subsequently did so got this comic. I forgot how good comics were to someone with limited time to read text only books, I love the artwork but it's more about the intricate storyline

The single best thing I have ever read
I have never been into superheroes but out of the blue I picked this up. Turns out there's only actually one real superhero in it and by law none of the other heroes can fight crime anymore. So it's just a story about normal people and their problems during a time of an impending nuclear war. The artwork is just way beyond anything I've seen fromOther comics. The level of detail is just ridiculous, you can literally spot more and more details everytime you look at it. My one gripe is I liked this that much, I'm gutted I didn't get the absolute edition.
