Perfecto Manufacturing APF75205 Marineland Fluorescent Recessed Full Lighting Hoods for Aquarium, 20-Inch, Black

The hoods that come with the readily available aquarium kits have gotten so cheap that they are hardly usable. After searching high and low I ran across this. The design is close to the same as the standard '80s hood, but nicer than what I remember. The light is florescent and protected from water by a silicon seal. I believe this is the best mass produced ten gallon aquarium hood on the market and it's made in the usa.

As good as I remember from years gone by. You can't get a decent hood these days from A----n and I have had many bad experiences with them recently. Cheaply made, their hoods don't last a year (whether it is the light itself or the flimsy front hood door) and I am sorry I ever wasted money on their product as it is so widely available. But this Perfecto Hood is great! It fits the tank extremely well and it may last for years as my other Perfecto hoods have. I wish it was readily available in the stores but I am extremely happy that I found it on Amazon. Well done.

After looking at aquarium hoods at pet stores and buying and returning one, I checked out Amazon and I'm glad I did. This hood was perfect for my aquarium. It sits neatly on the recess inside the top. The front flips open to feed the fish and for water changes. The light is glass covered so no moisture can get in. And the entire back has grooved sections that can be removed for filters, heaters, etc. The light is very bright and I am very satisfied with the quality.

I love this hood! It fit perfectly onto my 10 gallon aquarium. The light is bright and it looks great. A previous review mentions the filter cutout was hard to remove. I used scissors and cut along the groove and it snapped out perfectly.

The plastic is really brittle, but it fits my tank. As long as I never drop it, it's good enough.

This well-built unit fit directly, perfectly on my Petco tank: really couldn't have been a better fit.I used a combination of wire nippers, aviation and tin snips to trim places for the aquarium feeder, hoses, and bamboo plant.The issue is that either the light bulb — or power supply — has died within a week of use.There is barely a glow emanating from the bulb as I write.I'm ordering a new light bulb as I didn't like the color temperature of the one that was includedand hoping that's the problem. The ends of the bulb are not discolored.Just in case anyone wants to order a replacement bulb, I've attached a pic.It's an F15 T8 18" lamp.Given the complexity of any manufactured item, I'm always in a bit of shock that anything works.I think that Perfecto is a very good company and that this event is an anomaly.The product was shipped via Amazon and arrived quickly and was well-packed.

I ordered this to replace an LED fixture I had that finally died. I wanted to go back to florescent because I always had better luck with plants that way. I thought that this would be a really high quality hood based on the Marineland name and product reviews. I cannot believe Marineland would put their name on this thing! The plastic is brittle and flimsy, with sharp edges and rough finish; it looks like someone made it with an injection mold in their garage. Not only does the cheap plastic easily crack apart, it is just flat panels... there is no structural beams, ridges, or reinforcement at all... so it WILL break. I am returning this and going with the Aqueon Aquarium Black 20" Fluorescent Deluxe Full Hood. Compare the structural design of both and you will see what I am talking about. I actually had the Aqueon hood years ago and loved it. This one was a big waste of time and money sadly.

Very well constructed aquarium hood and lights the tank up nicely. The light was included. It does not say what size the light is, so I will have to wait until it burns out and take it with me to go get a replacement.
