Good magazine, but...
Like most magazines, Writer's Digest is hit and miss, depending on where you are as a writer and what kind of writing you do. Some articles speak to you, while others will appeal to writers in very different situations from your own. But even still, it's useful to get a glimpse into the other areas of the business of writing that I'm not quite ready for. This magazine is geared toward writers in general, but skews toward adult writers. As a writer of Young Adult and Middle Grade books, there's still plenty for me in this magazine because for the most part, writing is writing. But a little more focus on the one area of publishing that hasn't faltered in this tough economy (i.e. children's books) would be nice.My only complaint is one I've had with other magazines: When my subscription starts, please don't send me this month's and last month's issues at the same time!!! I'm sure this saves the magazine money since they can unload the unsold issues from last month and count it toward my 8 issues, but part of the fun of getting a magazine delivered to your house is that you get to look forward to a new one every month for a year (although with WD, it's only 8 issues in 12 months, so not even every month with this one). Even worse, I had both the September and October issues arrive on the same day! So I guess I'll only get 11 months worth of service, even though their sending me a years worth of issues. And for that, I'm withholding a star.UPDATE: 3 Days later I received the November/December issue!!! So my first three issues (two of which are obviously the back issues they're trying to unload) arrived in less than a week and almost half of my 8-issue subscription is spent. That's just ridiculous. If it would let me change my rating, I'd take it down to 3 stars, but apparently I'm locked in at 4.

Writer’s Digest Kindle Version
I admit that I took a chance on getting the kindle version of Writer’s Digest for multiple reasons, one reason relating to obtaining the kindle version as a warm-up to eventually obtaining the print version. The current kindle Writer’s Digest issue, at this time of writing of Writer’s Digest includes: an interview with an author who has written historical fiction, an article pertaining to seven pillars of freelance writing, an article pertaining to authors, publishers and the selling of foreign rights to international publishers, an article on how one book travels across various cultures, a column feature where readers are welcomed to write an opening line to a story based on one of the photo prompts, and more.

Like a mini writer's conference in each issue!
... This magazine contains some GREAT articles that will inspire the beginning writer and help established writers hone their skills. The articles are written by seasoned writers -- most of them have a regular column every month. For example, Nancy Kress, a well known novelist in her own right, is a regular contributor to a column exploring areas of fiction (for example: description, dialogue). In the December 2002 issue she discusses stereotypes in fiction -- where they can enhance and where they can detract. The December 2002 issue also contains an interview with Alice Sebold, author of the successful novel "The Lovely Bones" -- every issue contains an interview with an author, from the wildly famous to the newly famous. Here's a sampling of articles found in the December 2002 issue of Writer's Digest: Interview with Alice Sebold, 365 writing prompts to keep you writing all year, how to read in public with confidence, earn extra bucks from special events, how to beat the 7 freelance demons, writing clinic: fine-tune narrative voice. There are regular columns dealing with fiction, non-fiction, poetry, scripts, ask the lawyer, and so much more. All of the issues I've received (I subscribe) have been just as full as this one is.If you are an aspiring writer, buy the magazine. Can't afford to go away to a writer's conference? This magazine is like a mini writer's conference that comes to your door every month to lift your spirits and inspire you. Reading this magazine will make you feel that your writing dreams just might come true.

a worthy magazine
but I'm not the best reader it could have. too opinionated, I guess. and as someone who ALREADY makes a living by writing, some of their advice is of no use at all to me. but I like to read other writers' thoughts.

Great Mag for Writers, Prospective Writers, and Others
This is a great magazine, not only for writers, but also for those who are interested in writing. I purchased this subscription for my 15 year old niece who has been an avid writer since she was six. I thought this magazine would be a great resource for her and I was right. She absolutely loves it! I originally purchased the subscription through another vendor, but then I discovered that the Amazon subscription includes BOTH a hard copy and a kindle version for the same price!!!! It's like getting two subscriptions for the price of one! Now, not only does my niece get to enjoy this magazine, but I get to read the kindle version on my device. It's a great magazine with a lot of interesting articles. I'm no author but I do write a lot in my profession and I've always been interested in writing for fun. I'm also one of those people who take pride in everything I write, from a grocery list to a product review....I don't like misspelling, poor grammar, improper verb tense, etc. This magazine is a great tool for anyone, even those who, like myself, just want to improve their general day to day writing.

glad to be reading Writer's Digest again
I am so happy to be reading WD. It is giving me the impetus to continue my writing again. I love many of the articles. I am in the middle of working on a novel. Between the pandemic, getting sick and what feels like all hell is falling around me, I got a bad case of writer's block. Reading the magazine is making me feel connected with other writers.
