Faber & Faber When we were Warriors

Thoroughly enjoyed by my 11 year old
My daughter was hooked on Letters from the Lighthouse last Autumn when she studied the war at school and has been devouring Emma Carroll's books ever since. She was waiting in anticipation for this one to be released and it certainly didn't disappoint, she read it from cover to cover over the course of a weekend. This particular book features 3 shorter stories which work as stand alone stories but are all closely linked. Two of the stories follow up two of her previous books. My daughter said she would recommend that you read Letters from the Lighthouse first in order to give some background to the middle story in this book but personally she doesn't see it as important that you read Frost Hollow Hall first as the follow up in this book is set a long time after the original and the background is more obvious as you read. I'll take her word for it!

Cleverly linking short stories set in WW3
I enjoyed this book and used an extract of it with my Y6 class when writing setting descriptions of WW2. I like the fact the book has three short stories which cleverly link together. This really suits many readers in my class who are able readers, but find it difficult to finish longer books. This offers a great solution!

The Queen of historical fiction strikes again!
3 short, perfectly formed, stories set in the summer of 1942. If you've read Emma's other books (and if you haven't, you really should) then you will get to revisit some old friends as well as meeting some excellent new ones. Engaging, funny, smart, educational, adventurous and heart warming - a fantastic read for all the family.

Love it!
I love all of the Emma Carroll books, this one is a lovely addition especially if you've read the others as there are some great links within this book to previous ones. I would recommend this to anyone.
