Good book
This book was three different stories but one main character that interacted with each story. An interesting read and easy to follow.

Amazing!
This book had me from the start, every page was a new adventure! When we were warriors is set in WW2 and has an amazing plot as everything falls neatly into place. Previous boks by Emma Carrol, letters to the lighthouse and frost-hollow hall, are crucial to read before this book as it can become confusing with all the characters and settings of the book. However I was mesmerized at how Emma Carrol was able to link When we were warriors to the two other books so neatly as I was not expecting it to be so easy to read with all the character veiws and settings! Overall, this book is amazing and I would defianty recommend this book to any age as the cliffhangers and scene jumps are outstanding!

when we were warriors
I was pleasantly surprised to learn the story of Sukie was not over and yet another good story to be read, I enjoyed this book just as I enjoyed the last one but Emma Carroll.

Great job
Surprising how the first book I thought was simply excellent, however I give this book 4 stars and not five. I thought that, since the first book sets some expexctations, we want the sequel to be better than our expectations to be satisfied, and since it personally didn't hook me in as well as the first, it didn't manage to reach my expectations. However, the quality of description was (as always) marvellous creating an overall enjoyable experience, just not completely in a typical Emma Carroll way.I also think that this is a great historical fiction book based on WWII; it really shows you life in the 1940's. I'm not sure whether it was common for people to get married at 18 or not but since you are practically an adult by then I guess it makes sense. The book leaves me intruiged about what exactly happened to Stan after what we're told of his story so it has done a great job really. :)

Sensational, Emma Carroll does it again!
Amazing book, I loved it. A story of courage and kindness, it really evokes all the good feelings from you. As well as emotional, it is a thrilling book to read. I would recommend to age 8-14! Reader, age 9.

Thoroughly enjoyed by my 11 year old
My daughter was hooked on Letters from the Lighthouse last Autumn when she studied the war at school and has been devouring Emma Carroll's books ever since. She was waiting in anticipation for this one to be released and it certainly didn't disappoint, she read it from cover to cover over the course of a weekend. This particular book features 3 shorter stories which work as stand alone stories but are all closely linked. Two of the stories follow up two of her previous books. My daughter said she would recommend that you read Letters from the Lighthouse first in order to give some background to the middle story in this book but personally she doesn't see it as important that you read Frost Hollow Hall first as the follow up in this book is set a long time after the original and the background is more obvious as you read. I'll take her word for it!
