good book
This was the first Stephen King book I have read. I prefer other types (nonfiction) but I thought I would try something different. It was a quick read and somewhat enjoyable but I don't think I will be reading any more of this type book.

Good but it blew its own reason for the plot right up front.
All of this is supposed to be triggered by hitting someone with a car while distracted by a sex act being performed on him while he is driving. What was being depicted wouldn't be physically impossible for how obese he was. His stomach would have filled all the space between him and the steering wheel with some of it bulging under the wheel and the bulk of it sitting on his lap. The wife is supposed to be helping him with his diet, giving him a morning smoothie for breakfast, is tracking everything, but there are five different bags of chips and a sack of potatoes sitting on the kitchen counter while she's on a laptop talking to him about his weight. The fat suit was unconvincing because the face didn't move and the actor was so wooden, talking through his teeth looking like he was smiling all the time, even in serious scenes. It was as though he attended the Christopher Lambert school of acting. It was stupid at the end to leave a dangerous pie sitting out, unattended instead of making sure the one it is intended for eats it and then discarding the rest. Other than that it was a decent movie.

A tale of greed, lust, and deception at its peak!
I liked the thrilling suspense, music score, negligible fluff, and very good acting. The storyline did pretty good for a Stephen King adaptation. Alas, if only the downtrodden could sometimes prevail😢What I didn't like and Spoiler alert: why did he not sit down with her, watch her eat the pie, and then discard it? Eventhough he told the other to stay gone for the night- he had no idea when in the morning she would return! That's like your teen is spending the night with a friend so you leave your loaded hand gun on the counter all night.

A Cool Horror Theme Ruined by Bad Casting
The gypsy curse theme is not a common one for movie plots in the era of film I grew up in. So I was looking forward to this one. I am also a big Stephen King fan. Sadly, the poor casting in this film and excessively campy acting renders this film just about unwatchable. I only made it slightly past the midway point before that ridiculous scene where the guy in the bar describes his last encounter with Lempke was the final straw. I couldn't take any more of that mess.Half the scenes look like audition readings by unestablished actors / actresses trying too hard to make it to the big time. There is no cool factor with any of the characters. All of them are excessively emotional in their dialogue. The theme for the movie was great, however, the execution was not. The fact this film has a rating above 4 stars quite honestly astounds me and makes me have a little concern for what passes as a good movie these days.

Very amusing
This movie seems to be classic. It's a lighthearted, nightmarish tale that captivates all the way through. Comedy is pulled off equally as well as the dreadful aspects here. Really enjoyed this one.

A surprising gem
Many adaptations of King don't cut the mustard but Tom Holland's is faithful to the book and a joy to watch. It's always almost impossible to sympathise with a lawyer and that's the central issue with this one - as he remains a nasty piece of work, but the darkness of King's vision, that he would rather continue bent on his course for revenge rather than save his family is worthy of early Amicus or Clive Barker. Yes, the twist in the tale is pretty obvious but it's all faithful to the material. The fat suit and subsequent slimming down was well achieved and Joe Mantegna gives his best 'Fat Tony' impression. If you liked the book you won't be disappointed (it could have gone even darker though), if you didn't, you won't. It's no Misery or Shining, but it's no Dolores Clairborne either thank God. Enjoy Irresponsibly.

NOT THE BEST KING ADAPTATION, NOR THE WORST
Thinner is based on the story by Stephen King, the king of horror. It is not the best film nor the worst, it was intriguing.Plot: A 109-year-old gypsy exacts a curse on a man for accidently killing one of their own people, a curse so shocking it forces the victim to gorge himself in an attempt to avoid shrinking away into nothingness. It is a revenge thriller, a cause and effect happenstance. The power of the film and events escalate all the way up until the shocking resolution. The plot is rather bland to be honest, but the acting is fantastic. I can understand this from the Gypsy's perspective, I can understand why they put a curse on the man. But at the same time, you feel sorry for the man as it was not intentional. In a sense, it is moral justice taken to extremes with devastating consequences! You really wanted to see how it concluded, it had to end one way or another.Thinner is good in a way, but you were left feeling on the edge really. Sometimes it was too bizarre for you to attach to it, but it was hooking. King played a part in it too, which you laughed at. It's not fulfilling, but at least satisfying. Not the best film, nor the worst. Any one want pie?

Hasn't Aged Well
I bought this film on VHS (remember that?)and replaced with DVD as I had fond memories of the film. As a Stephen King fan I thought this was a pretty decent adaptation. Well, that hasn't changed. It's STILL a pretty good adaptation of the book. However, where the film suffers is in Robert John Burke's acting. When he's in the fat suit he's all wide-eyed and jolly - because, obviously, that's what all fat people are like. But later, when the weight drops off, that 'jolliness' disappears. Not because he's ill (that comes later). I found it to be most annoying. Also, Tom Holland's direction feels somewhat dated when compared to many other SK adaptations. There's nothing innovative or inspiring here. If anything, this feels more like a TV movie.Despite all this, I enjoyed rewatching the movie - but it wouldn't make my Top 10 Stephen King adaptations list. I was impressed with the DVD picture though.
