Yes. That's exactly how I use it. I don't know how else one would use it. Very easy to use.

you use the regulator knob. trigger for lighting only

Try it on a loop on a roller coaster I guess Duh!!!!

You mean the green 1 lb propane bottles? Yes, I used it on mine to start my firewood at camp. Works really great.
