The ’70s ushered in a whole new era of rock ’n’ roll and soul. And no one spun the hits better than Cincinnati’s own WKRP! But while its airwaves carried pure bliss, this iconic radio station was total anarchy behind the scenes! With its on-air personalities (slick Dr. Johnny Fever (Howard Hesseman), hip Venus Flytrap (Tim Reid) and nebbish news anchor Les Nessman (Richard Sanders) and smart program director Andy (Gary Sandy), indecisive manager Carlson (Gordon Jump), unscrupulous advertising executive Herb (Frank Bonner) and, of course, the station’s lovely receptionist, Jennifer (Loni Anderson), WKRP In Cincinnati gives you a whole new appreciation for the hilarity of radio! Includes all 22 episodes of this classic sitcom’s first season!

Edited from the original version.
The series had been altered from the original versions most likely for copyright concerns over the music used. This episode was missing about a minute of original footage. If I had known this, I would not have purchased it. Amazon needs to make people aware of this so they can make an informed decision. Now I am stuck with it since it took too far into the episode to realize it was edited.

Episode ends early
You don't get to hear Carlson end the show with one of the great lines in sitcom history. Apparently there is no way to request a refund after watching the video. It was only $1.99 so whatever, but I'll find a better copy online next Thanksgiving to watch.

WKRP Has Me Hitting the Floor
There is a very noticeable disclaimer on the back of the box about WKRP in Cincinnati’s music right issues (an entire essay could be written on the topic). I guess the question boils down to are you willing to accept some musical changes to get this slapstick funny comedy series out on DVD or not? This is probably the best that WKRP fans are going to get barring major change of heart in the future.I got these DVD’s on Thursday and have been laughing most of the weekend. They certainly don’t make shows like this anymore as I don’t think you could get material like Turkey’s Away or Mr. Carlson’s “foot powder” through the network today because someone would be offended. It is a little jarring to the modern television viewer the links that WKRP took things, but in its own way it’s almost like a time capsule that illustrates what comedy was, relative to today.

Best Damned show ever on TV
What I liked best is that it encapsulates the 70s in an excellent way. Plus, for not added cost, you get the Famous Thanksgiving Day turkey drop. "As God is my witness I thought turkeys could fly." Also, it's interesting to see how thin the cast members were 50 years ago. You can sure see how obesity is taking it's toll in our society. I've known more than one person who took up careers in radio because of WKRP in Cincinati.

I loved the old WKRP shows
I loved the old WKRP shows, so much so that one year my (ex) wife found me a bootleg copy of all the shows on a website that was probably seedy, and there I was with an ORIGINAL copy of the shows! Unfortunately, the bootleg had been made from old VHS tapes (remember those) so the quality wasn't as good as I desired, but it did contain all the original music, which... this copy I bought recently was the shows after they pulled all the great songs and put on some generic ones, which fall a bit short of being as good. That being said, the compilation is still a treasure, but not worthy of anything but 3 stars... so, if you wanted the originals, I think will be out of luck... if you just want the collection because of the great cast and acting, you will love the collection.

Still a great show!!!
I know a lot of people were giving this a one star because the music they played when the series aired is different. This is due to copyright laws. They tried to get permission to use the same music only the artists and lawyers wanted too much for them. If they had payed them what they wanted, WKRP would've never been released on DVD. That's ok with me. I loved the show when it aired when I was a kid, and I still love it today!!! Too bad they only have the 1st season available to download. Watching this takes me back home (I grew up in Dayton, Just north of Cincinnati). I have watched and re-watched these episodes multiple times and never get tired of seeing them!!!

Extremely funny...
When Arthur Carlson (owner of the fictional radio station WKRP) says "as God as my witness, I thought turkeys could fly" you can't help but laugh. The show itself was a bit over the top at times, but never jump the shark over the top. I grew up in Cincinnati, and yes the city had a great selection of real-life characters to amuse you in real life, none were anywhere near as endearing as this group. While the dvd suffers from the exclusion of music used in its original run (due to licensing issues) it's the characters/writing that make this a timeless classic. sure the fashions are a bit dated, but something tells me if these characters were real and they were around today they'd probably dress the same, as their outfits tend to mirror the phyche of the characters they adorn. I would highly recommend that you watch the entire season, available from amazon for a reasonable price, rather than stream it. As this is something that needs to be shared with friends as well.

This Show Ages Extremely Well
It is so rare for a decades-old TV sitcom to (1) remain funny 40+ years later and (2) age well. WKRP does both. Now just give us the rest of the series!

Among the best US comedy series ever
First broadcast in the late 1970's and into the early 80's this US sitcom about the staff of a local radio station (WKRP) in Cincinnati is a total triumph. This was character based comedy at its best. With Loni Anderson as the boss's sexy but intelligent PA, Howard Hesseman in a definitive performance as the wired Rock DJ and a host of other memorable characters (Gary Sandy, Tim Reid, Richard Sanders, Frank Bonner, Gordon Jump and Jan Smithers), this warmly and intelligently scripted (Hugh Wilson) and acted series became a cult classic following worldwide syndication (it took a little longer to catch on in its home country). Thirty years later, it holds up remarkably well and is well worth seeing - whether you vaguely remember it or have never seen it before. It's about time they released the rest of the series on DVD. Thoroughly recommended.

Memories.
I remember this show from when I was in my early teens and have often wondered if it was available on DVD. It is. A great present to myself and still as funny as I remember. If anyone wants to laugh, this is the one to do it for you. Great fun.

Ok , but not classic content.
Bought on a whim , it turns out to be watchable and of interest as a slice of life as it was at the time. It is interesting to see the way stereotypes werewritten at the time ; two balding characters are both buffoons - don't think it would be cast/written the same way today. It has the legendary LoniAnderson , but she was such a scorcher that she was always dressed in the same way , with the same hair. The other female lead , Jan Smithers as Bailey ,has more leeway in outfits , makeup , and hairstyle , and frequently upstages Loni. Of interest from the interviews included ; the network execswanted them to not address controversial subjects and write a slapstick episode. This was not well recieved , so they wrote the stupidest episodethey could think of ; low and behold it turned out to be the biggest episode of that year! ( Herb dresses up as the WKRP mascot ( a Carp!) and runs intothe competitions mascot from WPIG ( you guess the animal!). Hardly classic stuff , but well worth what I paid.

Radio As It Was
Having worked in radio doing just about everything from on-air, remotes, production, and finishing my career as the Music Director with a three-station radio chain, please believe me when I say so much of this series depicts what radio is like behind the scenes (or at least was prior to voice-tracking and computer files). It's also one of the reasons I got into the business.Do I wish the original sound track was available? Yes, of course I do - I've spun many of those tunes.Does the replacement of the original songs detract from the show? No, not really. The writing, situations and characters are still as great as they ever were.Look, we all know this music thing is probably the biggest concern of any fan considering buying this first (and so far only) year of the show. It was certainly mine, and I "hummed and hawed" for a few years before deciding to take a chance on the show as packaged. No regrets! Well, perhaps one - I regret waiting so long.If a guy who has worked in radio for many years can appreciate this show with the "generic" soundtrack, I'm pretty sure if you were a fan, you will too. Go ahead, take a chance on this series without the music; I'm pretty sure you won't regret it. Remember, I was a Music Director for several years, and if I can enjoy the show without the tunes I grew up with and programmed, I think you can, too. - 30 -
