Park Tool Headset Wrench HCW-15(32mm and 36mm)

I'm giving this one all the stars as my experience is that the metal is hardened enough that it really doesn't deform and the fit is tight enough on a quality headset that it doesn't slip. This one has the upside of having the right fit for your two basic sizes of threaded headsets. With as often as you'll run into these types of headsets today this is a lifetime purchase. There may be some legitimacy to the issue that it doesn't have a cushioned grip but its also long enough that you shouldn't have to use that much force with the amount of leverage it gives you.

If you have a bike that has a threaded headset, then chances are this will be the wrench size you need to service it. This wrench is laser cut from heat treated steel that I would guess is about equivalent to HRC 60 or so (that is the Rockwell measure of hardness), with about 0.75% carbon content. (if I remember correctly) That means if you are applying 80 Newton meters of torque to try and break loose an old rusted headset, this wrench will not bend or fail you. (I know, I just repaired a 30 year old bike a month ago with this wrench) And that is exactly what you want. Obviously, as the description notes, one opening is 32 mm and the other end is for 36 mm nuts. When you combine that with the fact the wrench is made by Park Tool in America and costs about $14, then you have a five star item. Glad it is in my bike toolbox.

Talk about precision. Literally tenth of a inch precise. No play and well made.The only bad thing is it's so precise that you can scratch things with the edge of the wrench. If you have an anodized headset be very careful.

It's perfect for holding and/or tightening the thin collar nut on the steering head. For the much larger clamping nut, this wrench is too thin to avoid its digging into the flats on the nut, so I bought a large adjustable wrench to deal with that one.The steel is thick and sturdy; it's not likely to bend or twist unless it's subjected to extreme force with some kind of "cheater."

Park Tool bicycle tools are affordable for what they are and are perfect for a hobby mechanic. Many of their tools are appropriate for use even in a professional environment. This one is acceptable, but during my time working at a shop, we tended to wear these out after using them several times a day.

Even before I used it, I could tell it was a quality Park tool; I could tell by the weight of the tool when it was in the folder when it arrived. I use this for the headset of my scooter and vintage bike. It works as it's supposed to for its intended uses. Highly recommended.

Superb quality and is machined extremely precisely. Extremely sturdy and sure this will last a lifetime. Worth spending a bit extra on this for these reasons.
