Random House Books for Young Readers The Big Red Book of Beginner

Perfect for bedtimes! I got this because I wanted the sequel to "I want to go into the zoo", but this is a collection of fun (and addictive) short stories with great illustrations. Perfect for reading to little ones. It's quite heavy, so probably not ideal for older ones to read to themselves unless they are quite strong, I imagine by the time they can easily hold this they would be too old for these stories.

My 4-year-old student absolutely LOVED the Big Blue Book, but after reading each story 4-5 times, we were ready for a change, and I ordered the Big Red Book. She loves it equally, we have already read two of the stories 4 times. She is learning so many words, and I love the way some words repeat through different stories, so she is not just memorizing one story, but recognizing the words. I highly recommend "The Big ... Book of Beginner books, and will certainly buy other "colours" as well!

We love these compilations! We make it a point to add one to our library for every holiday. Great stories, some of which we grew up on, all compiled in a durable book. Win, win!

These aren't good stories for kids. They are hard for beginner readers and one is about a bad dog that the owner said he was going to take him back to the pound to live on a stone floor. I love the green book and I was so disappointed by this one...

My three year old loves this book. Fun to read it to him.
