Anyone else have problems with the included D-Ring damaging the strap? Mine has suffered substantial wear after only an hour of workout.

I used mine for about about 30 minutes and experienced strap wear from the attached D-ring. I slipped a small towel in between the D-ring and strap, hoping that helps reduce the wear. I also re-positioned the D-ring so that it is located where the strap is "doubled up" so to speak. I had originally had it where the strap was not doubled-up on itself.

Could I use this to hang a heavy bag on a tree in my garden?

Hello Ammaar,If the tree branch can hold over 100lbs then yes the strap will work great.

Is it okay If it rains and it gets wet?

Probably for a while. It's pretty robust.

Do I need to use the Heavy Bag Spring with this type of hanger? Or is the spring only for the Wood Beam Heavy Mount Hanger which bolts into the ibeam?

the hang strap has a buckle and clip on one end, the other end is just strap.. I suggest a spring for a little give when your nailing the bag, it is less likely to rip. the strap is Velcro and insanely firm so if you have a place to loop it around, your good. if you have a partially exposed wood beam, you will need to get a really secure and large eye-screw in there to hang the bag from.
