This is a quality product.
This is mainly a review of the Coast XPH34R. However I do also somewhat review the Coast HL8 by comparison. Both of these products are quality items which I own. The HL8 is an earlier model with a lower light output. The advantage of this light is it will take AA batteries, and can be equipped with an optional rechargeable battery at extra cost. It is also in my opinion an more comfortable light to wear if you are not using a hard hat. The portion of the light that rests against your forehead seems larger, and the light is lighter. The brightness on the HL8 is easily adjustable with a 3 position rotary switch. This light is mainly a plastic build, but well made, and that may be why it is lighter. The XPH34R is primarily a metal product. It seems to be precision machined. It is designed to be used with Coasts lithium battery made for this product, and works well, is very bright. It is not as comfortable as the HL8 because it is heavier, and it appears that the area of the light that rests against the forehead is smaller, so more weight on a smaller area. This potential problem (not everyone will find it a problem) could be mitigated by using it with a hard hat. Coast provides a battery carrier which can be inserted in lieu of the rechargeable battery that takes AAA cells. I do not think AAA cells would last very long in this product, so you might want to get a spare rechargeable. You adjust the brightness of this product by a series of button presses. The light starts in medium mode. To set on high, press the button twice. To set on low, 3 times. The turbo mode can be activated by holding the button down for two seconds. I actually prefer the mechanism of the HL8 for setting brightness, but unless you are changing this often, the button presses should work fine. I like both these products and rate them 5 stars. However, be aware that while the XPH34R is pitched as a 2075 lumen light, this is ONLY in turbo mode, which shuts off after a very short time, and goes to a lower brightness… I assume to protect the light from heat damage. I can not find this detail in the light specs or description, but it is in the Q & A on the Coast website re this product… so I would rate the description as a little misleading. It has been my experience that Coast honors its lifetime warranty. I am a bit of a Coast-a-holic, (I have lots of their products), and have replaced two of them under warranty, which has been hastle free, and one reason I keep coming back for more. I wish they made cars.

Awesome Headlamp!
This headlamp is superior quality. I have been gushing about it since I got it and it has been super useful in multiple different ways. Just yesterday it gave me all the light I needed in the middle of a rain storm and stood up to the elements while doing so. Being able to just stick it to something metal and get instant light in just about any direction is also a huge plus. The headlamp itself is not huge to carry around at all but is a bit heavy in my opinion and that is literally the only slightly negative thing I have found to say about this headlamp so far. I LOVE that I can charge it with USB C, that sold me on the lamp in the first place.

Coast makes great flashlights; GREAT for power outage
The price seemed high however I was very impressed with the quality of coast's small handheld flashlights, so I gave it a shot. Am glad I did. It is plenty bright for any work and with 4 levels. Technically a 5th level (turbo) but I can't imagine ever needing that - it runs the light too hot and deactivates after 40 seconds by design. The over-head strap is necessary for the added weight over the xph30r. That makes it very comfortable, not feeling too heavy. My only complaint, the removability is not well designed, it is extremely difficult to snap in and out and feels like it will break the clips. But I won't ding a star because I will always use it on the head. I suggest you do not buy this on account of its ability to be used standalone. Otherwise this is a superior quality product. UPDATE one day+ power outage made this light entirely worth the purchase. Setting up/refueling/starting generator, using bathroom, walking around the house, and so many things, hands-free in the otherwise dark was VERY convenient.

Good almost great, but it isn't as polished as it could be
I use this headlight at my industrial job so it's attached to a hard hat. I have been in the industrial field for over a decade now and let say I've run through my fair share of headlight. When it comes to this particular headlight I'd have to give it a pass as a decent headlight but it has some areas it needs to be polished. Pros if left on medium it will last a long time. Its is bright enough and it's pretty sturdy. And I love that you can easily replace and swap batteries. Cons I think the magnetic thing is a little gimmicky but to each their own. I hate that it has a turbo mode that's annoying to use and only last a short period then turns off? Why even have it if it won't support it? It's like having a car that can go 200 mph but only once. Then use the turbo mode as the measure of lumens? Total scam to me. Now how bright is it at high? They claim its 1000 lumens but my milwaukee headlight rates at 600 lumens is superior is both brightness, how far it reaches and in color which doesn't matter to much. Honestly I would stick with the Milwaukee headlight if it wasn't always breaking down all the time. It keeps killing batteries even if they are less then 2-4 months and for $100 that's not cool. So time will tell if this product last but I can bet you physically it definitely will. Also it's a heavy light and that's a minor negative Conclusion. The headlight is relatively decent let see how it does over time. Edit I have had this headlight for about a year now and I have zero complains about it. It works every time. It still needs to be polished a little more but overall it has been very reliable and long lasting. I adjusted the rating to five to reflect the quality. If it broke today I would get another one.

Good enough as long as you don't remove the flashlight from the headset
Nice and bright and fits well... but the clip that retains the light into the headband has started to crack on the first use! Very cheap plastic clip

Coast makes good products
a little on the heavy side but also it's very sturdy easy to adjust not insanely expensive the magnet is pretty decent easy to use with a simple touch of a button and very versatile you can mount it with the magnet or wear it around the head a perfect companion for any fishing or camping trip or even if you are out in the garage working on something automotive related late at night and need a little extra visibility for a reasonably priced brand Coast has continued to surprise me

The Best Design I have ever used from Coast
I have bought and used dozens of Coast headlamps over the last 10-plus years. Why? Because they hold up better than any other brand I have tried. And I've tried a lot. Because I need help seeing in low light, I literally use my headlamps every single day, a lot. Even as quality for the price as my past Coasts, they eventually have something happen. Pick a past or current model; I have used them all. Weak points, such as plastic components that delaminate or break, switch failures, the wire connection from the battery pack to the lamp fails, the headband stretches beyond wearability, or the rubber cover over the battery pack wears out and won't stay in place. Coast does sell replacement parts on their website and things like replacement headbands are well worth it. So the folks at Coast obviously have realized their shortcomings and with this model, I absolutely everything about it. Huge improvements! 1. Metal housing. Very durable. 2. No detached battery pack. The single rechargeable battery is in the metal housing. So, no wires to catch stray objects or develop a failed connection. 3. Weight. Not so heavy that it feels like you're wearing a small barbell on your forehead. 4. Brightness. This is as bright, if not brighter than the brightest Coast I have owned, and that one was actually much bigger and heavier. 5. Functionality. I like the 3 levels of brightness, plus the bonus, where if you hold the switch down, it gets super bright. Full focus too, from wide to narrow. 6. The headband. Very strong and easily replaceable. 7. Charging and battery. I recharge the battery every other day. Unlike my other headlamps, where I had to pop AA or AAA batteries out to recharge, this plugs directly into the included USB-C cable. The USB-C connection on the frame is covered when you're not charging, which is nice. The single battery lasts quite a long time. I will be purchasing more of this model, to keep one in my truck, and more as backups. Highly recommend this XPH34R.

A truly perfect headlamp.
This is a reasonably priced fantastic, bright, quality headlamp. I have always had led lenser in the past. I couldn't afford one with the specs I required so I purchased this. It has fantastic light output. The battery has amazing longevity before requiring charge. The charging system is convenient, usb c. It comes with an alkaline battery adaptor for when it isn't possible to recharge. The headlamp is comfortable and comes with a lifetime warranty. This is the best purchase I have made in years. I totally recommend it for anyone who requires a great quality, high lumen, comfortable, versatile, affordable headlamp. Truly, you can't go wrong. And you won't be disappointed.

Very bright and comfortable headlamp with nice set of features. Good for night fishing
Was searching for a new headlamp to use during sea fishing from shore at night. Spent many hours looking for a high lumen count, decent battery life (with USB-C charging), adjustable beam width (Twist Focus™) - Coast XPH34R was the decision as I didn't have to compromise almost anything. One of key reasons I choose this model - the battery is located inside the torch so there's no bulky battery box on the back and no wiring in between - less prone to failure and you can sit on a chair & comfortably rest your head as there's nothing poking the back of your head. The light output is really strong. I'm mostly using the Mid setting, so it offers extended battery life compared to XPH30R model which outputs similar amount of lumens only in High mode. I also love that the mode toggle starts with the Mid setting, so I don't have to cycle through them until I reach my most common setting. After it's been turned on for over 1 minute, the next click turns it off which is also nice feature. The settings are: Mid > High > Low > Off. If you hold the power button for 2-3 seconds, it will activate Turbo mode which is very bright but will dim after 30 or 60 seconds to avoid overheating. Despite XPH34R is not the lightest of headlamps, the head strap is good and comfortable - it holds on the head firmly, even if you put it over a hat. Don't have any serious complains, except 1) I'd love if the Twist Focus would create more concentrated beam without the floodlight around to see objects in much further distance; 2) the price.
